BURNSVILLE, MINN. - Former St. Cloud State University men's basketball standout Matt Schneck was announced as a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) 2022 Hall of Fame class. Schneck, who played for the Huskies from 2006-2010, will be officially inducted during a ceremony on Thursday, July 12 during the NSIC's annual Summer Kickoff event at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Moorhead, Minnesota.Â
Schneck is one of seven former student-athletes in the NSIC's 2022 Hall of Fame class, joining Maggie McNamara (Concordia-St. Paul), Jim Kapitan (MSU Moorhead), Amanda (Madden) Mahlke (Northern State), Link Steffen (SMSU), Katie Wilson (Wayne State) and Ben Barrone (Winona State) as this year's inductees. In order to be eligible for the NSIC Hall of Fame, candidates must have made their contributions as either a former student-athlete, administrator/coach, official/supervisor/coordinator, contributor/supporter or team. Each NSIC member institution is asked to submit one candidate for induction into the Hall, and each class is derived from individuals who have been affiliated with the NSIC or its preview iterations (NIC/NSC).Â
Schneck certainly fits the bill, as he helped St. Cloud State men's basketball make an immediate impact upon its return to the NSIC in 2008-09. Schneck was named First Team All-Conference, NSIC player of the Year and the NSIC Tournament's Most Valuable Player after a dominating 2009-10 season and helped the Huskies set the program record for most conference wins in a season at 29.Â
Schneck wasn't just recognized by the conference for his outstanding play in 2009-10. As a senior, Schneck earned All-America honors from three different organizations, including the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), Daktronics and DII Bulletin, and was named CoSIDA Academic All-District at the conclusion of the season. Additionally, the senior led the Huskies to the Elite Eight and Final Four and was named the NCAA Central Region Tournament's Most Valuable Player. Schneck was additionally named to the Elite Eight's All-Tourmament team after averaging 22.5 points and 15.0 rebounds over two games.Â
Overall, Schneck ranks top-10 all-time in St. Cloud State history in both scoring and career rebounds. His 1608 career points ranks eighth all-time, while he is No. 5 in career rebounds with 909 total. A two-time team captain, Schneck also holds the program record for single-season rebounds (386), free throws made (157) and field goal attempts (295), and ranks top-10 all-time in career field goals made, career free throws made, career rebounds and career field goal percentage.Â
Schneck and the rest of the 2022 Hall of Fame class will be inducted in a ceremony on Thursday, July 12 as part of the NSIC's Summer Kickoff event. A social will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the ceremony at 6:00 p.m. Tickets can be reserved for the banquet by visiting the NSIC website and filling out the Hall of Fame banquet form.
