No. 8 Huskies Volleyball Travels to Wayne for NSIC Tournament Semifinals

St. Cloud State plays Wayne State, winner advances to the tournament championship
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 8 St. Cloud State Volleyball (21-7, 13-5 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) returns to Wayne, Neb. to play No. 1 Wayne State (28-1, 18-0 NSIC) on its home court for the second time in seven days. The Huskies closed out its regular season at Wayne last Saturday, Nov. 11. Saturday afternoon's NSIC Tournament Semifinal match will take place in Rice Auditorium with first serve being scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT. The Huskies are the No. 4 seed and WSC is the No. 1 seed after finishing NSIC play with an unblemished record. The remainder of the NSIC Tournament (semifinals and championship) is being held at Rice Auditorium.

The match will be broadcast on the NSIC Network (note – NSIC Network Access: The NSIC semifinals and championship will be streamed on the NSIC Network for a charge of $10 per match or $15 for a tournament pass. The Huskies moved up one spot to No. 8 in the AVCA Top-25 poll after being ranked No. 9 for three consecutive weeks. St. Cloud State has spent 30 weeks in the Top-10 under head coach Chad Braegelmann.
The final NCAA Regional Rankings were released on Wednesday and SCSU was ranked No. 7 in the Central Region. Wayne State was No. 1.
LAST TIME OUT
No. 8 St. Cloud State Volleyball (21-7, 13-5 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) recorded its seventh straight NSIC Tournament win after downing Northern State (19-9, 11-7 NSIC) in straight sets – 25-21, 25-19 and 25-14 on Tuesday night at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud. It was the first time that a conference tournament match had been hosted by St. Cloud State and been played in Halenbeck Hall.
NSIC Player of the Year, senior outside hitter Kenzie Foley (Sergeant Bluffs, Iowa) led the way with a game-high 16 kills on .353 hitting to go along with 13 digs – her 19th double-double of the season. Fellow All-NSIC First Teamer, redshirt sophomore Sam Zimmerman (Moorhead, Minn.) had a great night, recording 11 kills on .429 hitting and three block assists. All-NSIC Second Team honoree, sophomore setter Emma Berran (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) provided a match-high 37 assists. Junior libero Keely Kurschner (Maplewood, Minn.) recorded a match-high 16 digs.
NSIC HONORS
Three St. Cloud State Volleyball players earned All-Conference honors from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), as announced by the league office on Nov. 9. Senior outside hitter Kenzie Foley (Sergeant Bluff, Iowa) was named the NSIC Player of the Year. Joining Foley on the First Team was redshirt sophomore middle blocker Sam Zimmerman (Moorhead, Minn.). Sophomore setter Emma Berran (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) was named to the Second Team.
Foley became the first player in program history to earn NSIC Player of the Year honors. This season Foley leads the NSIC in kills per set and points per set. Nationally, Foley ranks first in kills per set, second in points per set and fifth in total kills. Foley has tallied double digit kills in every match this season and has recorded 19 double-doubles on the season.
Foley was named the Seawolf Invitational Most Outstanding Player and was named to the Up North All-Tournament Team. She has been named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week four times this season (9/11, 9/25, 10/23 and 11/6). Foley has been named to the All-NSIC First Team in each of her three seasons with the Huskies.
Sam Zimmerman joined Foley on the All-NSIC First Team, earning All-NSIC honors for the first time in her career. She was one of three underclassmen to earn All-NSIC First Team honors.
Berran ranks second in assists per set and fifth in service aces per set this season in the NSIC. Nationally, Berran ranks sixth in assists per set. She was one of five underclassmen to earn Second Team honors. It is the first time in Berran's career that she earned All-NSIC honors.
