St. Cloud State Tennis to face off against Sioux Falls in NSIC Tournament

Huskies looking for first tournament victory since 2017
St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Tennis (11-6, 6-5 NSIC) will travel to Sioux Falls this weekend to kick off the NSIC Tournament in a matchup with Sioux Falls on Friday, April 21st. After a 4-year hiatus, St. Cloud State has now appeared in the NSIC tournament for the 2nd consecutive season. Last season, the Huskies lost 4-0 to the eventual NSIC Tournament champion Augustana Vikings.

St. Cloud State is coming off a split weekend where they defeated Sioux Falls 4-3 to secure a spot in the NSIC Tournament as the 5th overall seed but were also swept 7-0 by Augustana. The Huskies recorded another come from behind victory as they rallied from a 0-1 deficit in doubles to secure the win. The back end of the singles lineup pulled down the curtains on the Cougars with four victories. Claudia Muñoz Perez, Arisa Kashima, and Maria Molitor all recorded wins in the third set of their respective matches, partnered with a victory by Johana Brower put the Huskies over the top in the match. The last time St. Cloud State played Sioux Falls in the NSIC Tournament was in 2016 were they fell 5-2. The Huskies hold an 8-7 all time record over the Cougars but have won one match in their past six meetings with the win coming this past weekend. St. Cloud State will look to recapture their first NSIC Championship since 2010 where they repeated as champions.
Sioux Falls
Sioux Falls (12-5, 5-3 NSIC) followed up the loss to the Huskies on Friday with a clean 7-0 victory over Minnesota Duluth. After finishing 7th in the conference last year, the Cougars jumped into 4th place this season. Sioux Falls closed out the season winning six of their final seven matches win the lone loss coming to St. Cloud State. The Cougars have now reached the NSIC Tournament for the 4th consecutive season but have not won a match since the 2019 season where they defeated Winona State 4-2. Last season, Sioux Falls was left heartbroken in the tournament last year as they lost 4-3 to Winona State in a thrilling match. The Cougars led 3-2 with two singles matches remaining, but were unable to close out either match to advance in the Tournament. Sioux Falls will be hoping for a different result this season in their match this Friday.
