No. 10 St. Cloud State Gets the Extra Conference Point Against No. 8 Minnesota-Duluth

Gentry, Zimmermann, and Sundelin scored in the shoot out
DULUTH, Minn. — The St. Cloud State Women's Hockey Team (15-15-2, 10-14-2 WCHA) picks up the extra conference point versus No. 8 Minnesota-Duluth (18-11-3, 15-10-1 WCHA) on Saturday afternoon.
PERIOD ONE
Avery Myers (Fargo, North Dakota) and Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) would each take penalties in the opening 20 minutes. The Bulldogs were able to get four shots on goal while Myers was in the box but were not able to tally any on their second power play opportunity. Jojo Chobak (Chicago, Ill.) made 13 saves in the first period while St. Cloud State tallied 11 shots on goal.
PERIOD TWO
The Huskies out shot the Bulldogs 10 to 6 in the middle frame. Following St. Cloud State's two penalties in the first, the Bulldogs would take back-to-back penalties in the second period. The Huskies tallied three shots on goal on two power play opportunities in the second period.
PERIOD THREE
The Huskies would get one additional power play opportunity in the final frame and tally three shots on goal. Once again, the Huskies would outshoot Duluth 14 to 9, allowing them to outshoot their opponent in all three regulation periods. Both goaltenders stood tall, not allowing a goal in 60 minutes of play.
OVERTIME
The Huskies dominated for most of overtime, tallying four shots on goal. Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) would get tripped on a breakaway opportunity and was awarded a penalty shot. Sauriol could not beat netminder Gascon, and overtime would continue for just over one minute.
SHOOT OUT
The game would not conclude after 65 minutes and the two teams forced a shoot out. Duluth would opt to shoot first and Hanna Baskin would beat netminder Chobak to put Duluth up. Emma Gentry would shoot first for the Huskies and she was also able to find the back of the net, making it even at one. Clara Van Wieren and Laura Zimmerman (Ringgenberg, Switzerland) were both successful in the second round of the shoot out. The St. Cloud State coaching lineup opted to send Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) out for the third round of the shootout although she has not scored her first collegiate goal. Chobak fended off Olivia Wallin and Sundelin was able to find the back of the net, helping the Huskies pick up the extra conference point.

UP NEXT
The Huskies are back on the road taking on conference competitor, Bemidji State. Puck drop on Friday is set for 6:00 p.m. CT while Saturday's is set for 3:00 p.m. CT to round out regular season play.
