TUPY NAMED NSIC PITCHER OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND TIME THIS SEASON
St. Cloud State Baseball redshirt junior Luke Tupy (New Prague, Minn.) was named the NSIC Pitcher of the Week after he spun a gem in a complete game seven-inning shutout of No. 19 Augustana, leading the Huskies to a 3-0 win on March 14. Tupy flirted with a no-hitter once again against the Vikings, as he didn't allow a hit over the first 3.2 innings. The Husky junior struck out 10 batters while allowing five hits and five walks. Tupy routinely worked around jams with Augustana stranding 10 runners in the game.
Tupy recorded his third career complete game and shutout, going the distance with seven IP to improve to 3-0 on the season with a 2.57 ERA. Tupy's 10 punch outs were his second-best performance of the season (12 vs. UC Colorado Springs on Feb. 25) and marking the seventh time in his career he has recorded 10 or more strike outs. On the season, Tupy is now 3-0 with a 2.57 ERA, 41 strike outs and .168 opponent batting average. He leads the NSIC in the strike outs and opponent batting average.
JAMES NAMED NSIC PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOLLOWING COLORADO SERIES
St. Cloud State Baseball graduate Cal James (Buffalo, Minn.) was named the NSIC Player of the Week after an impressive weekend in SCSU's road trip to Colorado, helping the Huskies win three out of four against UC Colorado Springs and CSU Pueblo while hitting .500 (9-for-18) over the four-game stand with four home runs, 11 RBI and eight runs.
James slashed .500/.545/1.333 with six extra base hits (4 HRs, 2B, 3B) and two or more hits in all four games. The Husky 3B had a home run in each of the first two games against UC Colorado Springs and recorded six RBI over the series. In SCSU's 11-9 win over CSU Pueblo, James hit two home runs, had five RBI, three hits and three runs scored, all season-highs. James' two blasts mark his fifth career multi-home run game after hitting two home runs four times with UMary, most recently against St. Cloud State on April 23, 2023. His five RBI are the second-most in his career, trailing only his six RBI performance from May 1, 2021.
