
Five St. Cloud State Softball Players Earn Academic All-District® Honors

Fitzgerald, Holzhueter, Krueger, Stallings and Weinberger cited by CSC for academic and athletics performance
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Five St. Cloud State Softball student-athletes have been named to the 2024 Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). Junior corner infielder Maggie Fitzgerald (Oak Lawn, Ill.), First Team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC)/Second Team Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Central Region honoree junior utility Reese Holzhueter* (Shakopee, Minn.), senior second baseman Lydia Krueger (Appleton, Wis.), senior right handed pitcher Mckenna Stallings (Milton Freewater, Ore.) and fifth year right fielder Holly Weinberger (Waconia, Minn.) were recognized for their success in the classroom and on the field.
The 2023-24 Academic All-District® Softball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 18, 2024.

Fitzgerald carries a 3.57 cumulative grade point average as an Elementary Education major. This season, she played in and started 55 games and owned a slash line of .316/.422/.652 with 49 hits (10 doubles and 14 home runs) and 53 RBI – all were new career highs. She earned NSIC All-Academic Team honors in 2023.
Holzhueter has a 3.83 GPA as an Accounting and Criminal Justice double major. She owned a slash line of .371/.405/.594 with 73 hits including 24 extra base hits (12 doubles, four triples and eight home runs. The junior also scored 50 runs, drove in 31 more and stole 13 bases while starting all 56 games. She was named to the NSIC All-First Team and the D2CCA All-Central Region Second Team as a utility after splitting time behind the plate and in the outfield during her first season as a Husky. The Shakopee native was named the NSIC Softball Player of the Week on Feb. 5 for her efforts in the Huskies opening weekend sweep in the Kelly Laas Memorial Tournament. She earned NSIC All-Academic Team and All-Academic Team of Excellence honors in 2023.
Krueger carried a 3.93 GPA, graduating with a degree in Gender and Women's Studies and a Feminist Leadership certificate. She played in 54 games with 53 starts while recording single season career-best marks in runs scored (23), hits (26), doubles (three), triples (one), walks (10), hit by pitch (22 – single season program record), RBI (18) and stolen bases (10). She also finished her career on top of the career hit by pitch leaderboard with 42. She is a two-time NSIC Academic All-Conference honoree, a two-time NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence member, a two-time CSC Academic All-District selection and a Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award recipient.
Stallings graduated with 3.81 cumulative GPA and a degree in Studio Art. She pitched in 16 games this season making eight starts in her lone season with the Huskies after transferring from Eastern Oregon University. She struck out 15 batters over 35.1 innings pitched.
Weinberger graduated with a degree in Heath and Physical Education (3.92 GPA) in 2023 and is pursuing a Master's in Education Administration and Leadership (4.0 GPA). She started all 56 games this season owning a slash line of .323/.379/.414 with 60 hits (12 doubles, one triple, one home run) and 24 RBI. The Waconia native broke the school record for doubles in a career with 53, passing Kelly Olson (2010-13) and Abby Bourman (2000-03) who each had 51 in their career and finished fourth on the program leaderboard for career games played (225). Weinberger is a three-time NSIC Academic All-Conference honoree, a three-time NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence member, a three-time CSC Academic All-District selection, an NFCA Scholar Athlete, a Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award recipient, a Capital One Academic All-District selection, a D2CCA Second Team All-Region selection, a two-time NSIC Gold Glove winner and a two-time All-NSIC Second Team selection.
