St. Cloud State Softball Hits Four Home Runs in Senior Day Sweep of Wolves

Huskies outscore Northern State 15-4
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball (37-14, 16-7 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) swept its senior day doubleheader against Northern State Moorhead (10-35, 4-20 NSIC) at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies won the first game 9-0 in six innings and the second game 6-4 to wrap up its 2025 home schedule.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 9, NORTHERN STATE 0 (6 INN.)
The game was scoreless through 2 ½ innings before the Huskies opened the scoring and took a 2-0 lead with an RBI-double from redshirt sophomore infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.) and an RBI-single from sophomore infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.).
In the bottom of the fourth, SCSU scored on a wild pitch and then added three more with a three-run home run from senior infielder Maggie Fitzgerald (Oak Lawn, Ill.) to take a 6-0 lead. Sophomore outfielder Bree Beck (Lakeville, Minn.) extended the lead to 7-0 after she hit an RBI-single in the fifth inning.
Sophomore catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) triggered the run rule when she hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth to make the game 9-0.
TOP HUSKIES
NSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half inning of play. The Huskies cut its deficit in the bottom of the second inning when freshman catcher Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.). The Wolves extended its lead back to two runs in the third inning with a solo home run. SCSU drew even for the first time in the game in the next half inning when Holmes responded with a two-run shot.
Northern State regained the lead yet again after an RBI-double in the top of the sixth inning, but the Huskies answered again in the next half inning when Holmes hit her second home run of the game and junior infielder Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) gave SCSU its first lead of the game with a 2-RBI double later in the inning to clinch the doubleheader sweep on senior day.
TOP HUSKIES
SCSU closes out its regular season schedule next weekend with a trip to North Dakota. The Huskies play Minot State (27-20, 15-9 NSIC) on Saturday, April 26 and UMary (9-40, 2-22 NSIC) on Sunday, April 27. - Holzhueter recorded her team-leading ninth 3+ hit game of the season and team-leading 21st multi-hit game. She extended her hitting streak to a season-best 16 games (longest streak since Jasmin Estrada in 2022 - 16 games). She also extended her on-base streak to 16 games which ties the team's longest mark this season. She remained perfect on stolen base attempts this season (17-for-17).
- Weiss posted her third 3+ hit game of the season and 18th multi-hit game of the season (second most on the team). She extended her hitting/on-base streak to 10 games. She recorded her 10th multi-RBI game of the season (tied for second most on the team). She hit her fifth home run of the season (second most on the team).
- Holmes tallied her eighth 3+ hit game of the season (second most on the team) and 17th multi-hit game of the season (third most on the team). She extended her hitting/on-base streak to six games. She hit her 12th double of the season (third most on the team).
- Beck posted her seventh multi-hit game of the season.
- Fitzgerald tallied her second 3+ RBI game of the season and ninth multi-RBI game of the season. She extended her on-base streak to 13 games. She hit her fourth home run of the season.
- Clark took sole possession for the team lead in wins (16) and combined shutouts (two). She surpassed 140.0 innings pitched this season and 115 strikeouts.
- Gross made her fourth appearance of the season and first since March 4 in Florida. She recorded her first strikeout of the season and was part of a combined shutout for the first time.
- Frechette extended her on-base streak to 16 games which is tied for the team's longest mark this season. She hit her 10th double of the season, becoming the fifth Husky with 10+ doubles this season.
