St. Cloud State Softball Swept by Mavericks

Huskies have season-long nine-game win streak snapped
MANKATO, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball (34-13, 13-6 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) was swept by Minnesota State (34-14, 13-6 NSIC) on Sunday at The Diamon in Mankato. The Huskies dropped game one, 6-0, before falling 7-5 in game two.
GAME ONE: MINNESOTA STATE 6, ST. CLOUD STATE 0
MSU struck first in the home half of the second inning with a solo home run, added four runs in the third and one more in the fourth to bring the game to its final score. The Huskies were unable to score, stranding six runners on the basepaths after tallying seven hits and drawing two walks.
TOP HUSKIES
SCSU scored its first runs of the day and took its first lead of the day in the first inning, going up 2-0 in the top of the first inning. The Mavericks took its first lead of the game after plating three runs in the bottom of the second and extended its lead with a run in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth.
The Huskies, down 7-2, began rally in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs to cut the deficit to two and had runners on second and third but MSU ended the game after turning a double play.
TOP HUSKIES
SCSU returns home for its final four home games of the season and inaugural games at Husky Stadium on Friday and Saturday April 18-19 against MSU Moorhead (14-33, 6-14 NSIC) and Northern State (10-31, 4-16 NSIC). - SCSU moved to 5-3 on the road this season and had its season-best nine game winning streak snapped.
- The Huskies were shutout for just the third time this season but recorded 7+ hits for the seventh straight game.
- SCSU didn't tally an extra base hit for the first time this season.
- The Huskies allowed 6+ runs for the first time in 11 games and have allowed 10+ hits for the fourth time in the last five games.
- Holzhueter recorded her team leading 19th multi-hit game of the season and her seventh 3+ hit game (tied for most on the team). She extended her hitting/on-base streak to 12 games. She went 1-for-1 on stolen base attempts, remaining perfect on the season (15-for-15).
- Fitzgerald extended her hitting streak to six games and her on-base streak to nine games.
- Nutter made her first appearance since March 4 in Florida.
- Sophomore catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) extended her hitting/on-base streak to six games.
- Junior infielder Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) extended her hitting streak to six games and her on-base streak to seven games.
- Redshirt sophomore infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.) had her season best hitting streak of nine games snapped but extended her on-base streak to a season-best 12 games.
- Junior right handed pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) surpassed 130.0 innings pitched this season and had her four-game winning streak ended.
