Last Time Out
The Huskies opened up GLIAC play this past weekend as they hosted Davenport and Saginaw Valley State.
The first half against Davenport was a battle between the two goalkeepers in Ramy Atia for the Huskies and Beau Hudd for the Panthers. Both offenses generated seven shots in the half with three landing on goal. Each keeper came up with big time saves to keep the game knotted at 0-0 headed into the halftime break.
Moving into the second half, play ramped up as both teams battled for the always important conference victory. St. Cloud State applied offensive pressure throughout the second half with multiple scoring chances but ultimately broke through in the 76th minute. The Huskies would have a throw-in deep in their offensive zone as Ryder Delport delivered a pristine ball into the box. Yousif Atia made a great play on the ball as he centered it off his head. After being knocked by two Davenport defenders, the ball landed at the feet of Andrés García who blasted the ball past Hudd with his right foot to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Following the goal by García, the Huskies defense did their part to secure the three-points in the standings by limiting Davenport to only three shots the rest of the way with only one landing on goal. St. Cloud State went on to capture a 1-0 shutout victory in their conference opener against Davenport.

García Scores Game-Winning Goal against Davenport
Friday's game against Wisconsin-Parkside will be the ninth overall meeting between the programs with the Huskies holding a 2-4-2 record in the series. SCSU currently has a three-game unbeaten streak against the Rangers after facing off twice in 2024.
With the first game taking place at Husky Stadium, Eduardo Balduino opened up the scoring for the Huskies in the 26th minute as Philip Caputo and Owen Worsdell dished the ball over to Balduino who rocketed a ball off his right foot to find the net. St. Cloud State went into halftime holding that 1-0 but the Rangers provided a quick answer as they tied the game in the 49th minute with a goal by Chris Estrada. The Huskies answered almost instantly as the offense drove the ball deep into the box where Caputo fired a shot that would knock off the hand of a defender. No handball was initially called, but after discussion, the correct call was made, and Caputo was awarded a penalty kick. The senior midfielder made the most of the opportunity as he wound up and scorched the ball past the keeper to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead. The teams battled on, but Parkside perfectly executed a free kick in the 62nd minute as Tank Anderson sailed a ball into the ball and Paco Piscaglia knocked it in with his head to tie the game 2-2. The Huskies would ultimately take the lead late in the game as it was Caputo again after Yuken Harmon drove the ball into Ranger territory and worked the ball to Balduino who then found Caputo who smacked in his second goal of the game off his left foot to give St. Cloud State a 3-2 lead at the 75-minute mark. Parkside would not go away as they worked the ball deep into Husky territory and Eduardo Perez tied the game in the 83rd minute. The Huskies, who have been a resilient group all year, were determined to come away with the victory. In the 84th minute, Andrew Holmes skipped the ball over to Austin Plumhoff on the left side of the field who then dished it down to Caputo who worked his magic by beating multiple defenders off the dribble to get into the box and unleashed a ferocious kick to the right post that hit the back of the net. St. Cloud State would take a 4-3 lead and locked down the Rangers offense in the remaining six minutes as they did not allow a shot. The Huskies would knock off the No. 21 ranked Rangers by score of 4-3.
With game two taking place in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the Huskies and Rangers battled for the majority of the first half until UW-Parkside scored in the 31st minute to break the tie. The Rangers would ultimately find the back of the net again to close out the half as St. Cloud State trailed 2-0 at halftime. In need of a big comeback to not lose any ground in the conference standings, the Huskies came out ferociously as Mika Folstad headed a ball into the net off a feed from Owen Worsdell in the 51st minute. St. Cloud State continued their momentum as Noah Eklund equalized the game in the 64th minute off assists from Noah Kantorowicz and Yannick Langerhuizen. The teams battled the rest of the half to a draw. The Rangers had a shot to win the game in the final five seconds, but Ramy Atia had a big-time save to ensure the game stayed tied. The Huskies picked up their first draw of the season with a 2-2 split against the Rangers.
Sunday's match against Northern Michigan will also be the ninth meeting between the programs with St. Cloud State leading the series 4-3-1. SCSU is on a four-match unbeaten streak against the Wildcats after sweeping them last season.
With the first game coming at Husky Stadium, Philip Caputo continued his hot streak as he found the back of the net in the 10th minute to give the Huskies an early 1-0 lead. Caputo was setup on the play by Andrew Holmes and Nolan Pratumwon who skipped the ball down field to a streaking Caputo who beat the keeper for the goal. That score would hold up until halftime as the Huskies led 1-0 at the break. Northern Michigan was rejuvenated to start the half as a goal by Alessandro Scialanga in the 51st minute tied the game at 1-1. The teams would battle late into the match before former Northern Michigan Wildcat Noah Eklund drew a key foul to set up a free kick for the Huskies at midfield. Goalkeeper Ramy Atia booted the ball deep into the Wildcats box where Matt Greenland would come away with the ball and punch in the goal in the 83rd minute to put the Huskies up 2-1. The St. Cloud State defense locked in for the final seven minutes as Northern Michigan did not attempt a shot, leading to the 2-1 victory and third straight win for St. Cloud State.
The first half of the second game in Marquette, Michigan was fairly quiet for both teams before Philip Caputo dribbled the ball into the box where he was fouled, leading to a penalty kick. Caputo stepped to the line and fired a shot to the right post which beat the keeper to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute. St. Cloud State held that lead for the remainder of the half. The second half also started slowly until the Wildcats created a break opportunity which led to the Huskies fouling Northern Michigan in the penalty box. A Northern Michigan player stepped up to the plate and fired a shot that would be denied by goalkeeper Ramy Atia who made an incredible diving save to his left to block the shot in the 61st minute. That save was a massive momentum killer for the Wildcats. The teams battled late into the game before the Northern Michigan goalkeeper sent a ball into the Huskies box where Andrew Holmes came away with the ball. Holmes passed it up to Caputo who took a couple of dribbles and fired a missile at the midline which flew past the keeper and blew up in the back of the net in the 82nd minute. The St. Cloud State defense again held strong in the final minutes of the game as the Huskies won their sixth straight game 2-0 against Northern Michigan.
