SCSU falls to 1-2 in GLIAC play
St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State Men's Soccer (3-4-1, 1-2-0 GLIAC) were defeated 1-0 against Wisconsin-Parkside Friday evening. After being knotted up at zero for most of the game, the Rangers scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute to come away with the victory.
The Huskies opened up the game with a strong defensive performance. The midfield and backline for SCSU was smothering as they took away chances for Parkside to advance the ball up the field. Cutting off passing lanes and making breaks on the ball led to the Huskies holding Parkside to only two shots in the first half with none coming on goal. Offensively, SCSU generated six shots with one landing on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net as the game went into the half tied 0-0.
Out of the break, St. Cloud State continued their strong defensive play as the game remained at a standstill. In the 75th minute, the Rangers went on a counterattack after the Huskies cleared the ball. With quick and decisive passing, Parkside was able to work their way through the defense to give Kevin Sosa a shot on goal. Sosa capitalized on the chance to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. With time ticking away, SCSU worked the ball into their attacking zone multiple times during the final 15 minutes. They created a few scoring chances off two corners kicks, but nothing graced the meshing. The Huskies would ultimately be defeated 1-0 for their second conference loss of the season.
