SCSU gives up six runs in ninth and 10th innings in 9-8 setback

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – St. Cloud State Baseball (5-7, 2-2 NSIC) fell in 10 innings to Truman State (2-11, 0-0 GLVC), 9-8, on Saturday afternoon in Kirksville. The Huskies had a 7-3 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning but gave up four runs in the ninth and two in the 10^th resulting in the loss.

SCSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two runs in each of the first and third innings. Senior Ethan Navratil (Albany, Minn.) and sophomore Wilmis Castro (San Juan, Puerto Rico) had RBI singles in the first inning while redshirt junior Eric Bello (Manati, Puerto Rico) and redshirt sophomore Hayden Konkol (Denmark, Wis.) each had RBI singles in the third inning.

Truman State then cut the lead to 4-3 in the fifth inning before scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh from both teams. SCSU added on a run in the eighth and two in the ninth, including another RBI single from Bello. Truman State then rallied to score four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to force extra innings. SCSU re-took the lead on an RBI double from redshirt freshman Grayson Fuchs (Paynesville, Minn.), but then Truman State scored two more runs in the 10^th inning to win, 9-8.

NOTES

Navratil extended his hit streak to 11 games as he has now hit safely in every game but the first game of the season and is hitting a career-best .340 through 12 games.
Konkol had a career-high four hits in the game.
Moreno had his team-leading third three-hit game of the season and is now hitting .415 on the season.
Castro matched his season-high with three hits to raise his season average to .311.
Bello matched a season-high with three hits and had two RBI, the third game this season with multiple-RBI.
Brassfield had his best start of the season, pitching four innings of scoreless baseball while allowing three runs with five strikeouts.
Nelson pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball, his third outing in four appearances where he has not allowed a run.
