
St. Cloud State Baseball Takes Both Games of Doubleheader with Minot State

Huskies win 6-2 and 11-3 in doubleheader sweep
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Baseball (22-22, 18-16 NSIC) got back in the win column with a doubleheader sweep of Minot State (16-27, 10-24 NSIC) on Saturday at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud. The Huskies won 6-2 and 11-3 and will look for the series sweep on Sunday.
GAME 1 – SCSU 6, MINOT 2
SCSU scored all six of its runs in the first three innings, plating two each frame to jump out to a 6-0 lead and take control of the first game of the day. Senior Blaine Guthrie (Emerald, Wis.) had an RBI single during the stretch, while the Huskies also scored on two groundouts, two errors and a sacrifice fly.
Redshirt junior Brady Nelson (Oro Valley, Ariz.) got the start on the mound for the Huskies and produced an impressive outing, lasting 6.1 innings while only allowing two earned runs on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts. He held Minot State off the scoreboard until RBI singles in the sixth and seventh and improved to 6-0 on the season with the victory. Junior Connor Doolittle (Littleton, Colo.) came on in relief and got the last two outs in the game to secure the victory.

In the second game, SCSU jumped out quickly once again, scoring two runs in the second inning, two in the third and four in the fourth to take a 8-0 lead early. Navratil and Moreno homered in the third and fourth inning, respectively. Minot State scored three runs in the seventh inning, but SCSU responded with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning from freshman Austin Baumhover (Van Meter, Iowa) and a two-run double from junior Wyatt Tweet (Russell, Manitoba) in the eighth inning.
On the mound, junior Bryce Brassfield (Gilbert, Ariz.) pitched a strong six-plus innings while only allowing one run with eight strikeouts.

- Nelson's six wins rank second in the NSIC while joining an exclusive group of Huskies who won six or more games without registering a loss. He is the ninth Husky in program history to have a 1.000-win percentage on the mound with six or more decisions, with the last to accomplish that feat being Ethan Lanthier (6-0 in 2022).
- Moreno continues to lead the Huskies in runs and stolen bases with two each in the game.
- Navratil recorded his sixth three-hit game of the season and 16th multi-hit game overall.
- Guthrie recorded his 16th RBI of the season with an RBI single in the first inning.
