St. Cloud State Baseball Splits with Winona State to Close Home Slate

Huskies hold off Winona comeback in game one 5-4, hit six home runs in game two setback
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Baseball (24-23, 20-17 NSIC) split a doubleheader with Winona State (22-25, 18-19 NSIC) on Tuesday night at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud. The Huskies won game one 5-4 before a 17-13 win for Winona State in the second game.
GAME 1 – SCSU 5, WSU 4
SCSU scored runs in the first three innings to open its 5-0 lead in the game. Redshirt junior Liam Moreno (Sun Prairie, Wis.) hit a two-run home run in the second inning while junior Wyatt Tweet (Russell, Manitoba) hit a solo home run in the third inning.
On the mound, redshirt senior Frankie Volkers (Maple Grove, Minn.) made his second start of the season and went five innings while only allowing one run on four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts. Winona State pulled within one run after a three-run seventh, but freshman AJ Price (Neenah, Wis.) came on in relief to get the final out and earn his first save of the season.

The second game of the day featured no shortage of offense with SCSU scoring the first six runs, then Winona State scored 14 of the next 16 runs. SCSU scored five runs in the final two innings, but came up four runs short in their comeback attempt at 17-13. The two teams combined for 30 runs, 34 hits and nine home runs.
The Huskies hit six home runs in the game with senior Ethan Navratil (Albany, Minn.) launching two for his second career two-home run game, while sophomore Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.), redshirt sophomore Hayden Konkol (Denmark, Wis.), junior Taeyhung Kim (Marana, Ariz.) and junior Ethan Krueger (Wauwatosa, Wis.) joining by hitting one each.

SCSU will finish the regular season with a three-game series at Bemidji State on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3. Friday will consist of a doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m. CT while Saturday will be one game at 12:00 p.m. CT.

- SCSU hit a season-best six home runs in the game, its most in a game since hitting seven against Northern State on March 28, 2018, in a game played in Sioux Falls, S.D.
- SCSU's 56 home runs on the season now rank as the fourth-most by a Husky team in program history, matching the team's 2022 mark.
- Navratil launched his 10th and 11th home runs of the season to record a new career best for home runs in a season. It is the 27th time a Husky has reached double digits in home runs.
- The Husky senior hit his 29th and 30th career homers, as he becomes just the fifth Husky to hit 30 career home runs, joining Sam Riola (36, 2022-23), Zak Hoffman (35, 2014-16), Mike McKinney (34, 1996-99) and Joey Benke (34, 2009-12).
- Navratil's three RBI give him 158 on his career, a mark which now ranks fourth all-time in program history, surpassing Zach Hoffmann (155, 2013-16) and Mat Meyer (155, 2016-19).
- Kim and redshirt junior Eric Bello (Manati, Puerto Rico) each had four hits in the game, matching the most by a Husky in a game this season.
- Castro hit his ninth home run of the season, while Konkol hit his sixth, Kim hit his second and Krueger hit his second.
