St. Cloud State Baseball Earns a Pair of Wins over Bemidji State

Huskies hold off comeback, then finish comeback in doubleheader sweep
BEMIDJI, Minn. – St. Cloud State Baseball (26-23, 22-17 NSIC) pulled out a pair of wins to sweep a doubleheader over Bemidji State (6-40, 5-34 NSIC) on Friday in Bemidji. The Huskies jumped out to a lead and held on for a 7-6 win in the first game before scoring four runs in the ninth to force extras and win 10-7 in 10 innings in the second game.
GAME 1 – SCSU 7, BSU 6
SCSU jumped out early, scoring all seven of their runs in the first three innings before having to hold off a Bemidji State comeback. Senior Ethan Navratil (Albany, Minn.) kicked off the scoring with an RBI double in the first inning to score redshirt senior Liam Moreno (Sun Prairie, Wis.). The Huskies then scored three runs in each of the next two innings on RBI hits from junior Wyatt Tweet (Russell, Manitoba) and redshirt junior Brayden Jacobson (West Fargo, N.D.), as well as a sacrifice fly from Jacobson and a fielder's choice from redshirt junior Eric Bello (Manati, Puerto Rico).
On the mound, junior Brady Nelson (Oro Valley, Ariz.) reached the fifth inning before yielding way to junior Connor Doolittle (Littleton, Colo.) to finish the final 2.1 innings and earn the save. Nelson gave up six runs in the game, but only one earned run and struck out four, while Doolittle only allowed one hit while retiring eight of nine batters to close the game.

GAME 2 – SCSU 10, BSU 7 (10 inn.)
The Huskies needed to rally late to pull off the doubleheader sweep of the Beavers, scoring four runs in the top of the ninth inning and four more in the 10th to pull out a 10-7 win.
BSU scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 6-2 lead in the game and were just three outs away from taking the second game of the doubleheader. Just like he's done all season, Navratil provided the big hit to spark the comeback and build momentum for the Huskies, crushing his 12th home run of the season, a three-run blast to right field to pull the Huskies within one run at 6-5. Junior Ethan Krueger (Wauwatosa, Wis.) the tied the game with an RBI single, scoring freshman Austin Baumhover (Van Meter, Iowa) to send the game to extra innings.
In the extra frame, the Huskies pounded the Beavers, scoring four runs to take a commanding 10-6 lead on an RBI double from Navratil, a two-run, pinch-hit triple from redshirt freshman Reid Tigges (Spencer, Iowa) and a sacrifice fly from redshirt sophomore Hayden Konkol (Denmark, Wis.).
Junior Christian Lessman (Spicer, Minn) pitched the final two innings and shut the door on the Beavers to clinch the game for the Huskies, allowing just one run on one hit with two strikeouts.

- The 11 team saves are tied for the fourth-most in a single season in program history, trailing the 13 saves in 2008, 12 in 2011 and 2019, and matching the 11 saves in 2013.
- Moreno recorded his 18th multi-hit game of the season while Castro had his 17th multi-hit game.

- Brassfield had seven strikeouts to pull even with redshirt senior Frankie Volkers (Maple Grove, Minn.) for the lead lead at 59.
