
St. Cloud State Baseball Travels to Bemidji State to Wrap up Regular Season

Huskies and Beavers to play doubleheader three games May 2-3 in Bemidji
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Baseball (24-23, 20-17 NSIC) will close out the regular season with a three-game series on the road against Bemidji State (6-38, 5-32 NSIC). The two teams will play a doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m. CT on Friday, May 2 and a single nine-inning game on Saturday, May 3 starting at 12:00 p.m. CT.

NSIC TOURNAMENT COMING SOON
With the last weekend of the regular season upon us, the 2025 NSIC Baseball Tournament is fast approaching, and the playoff position is taking shape. SCSU is currently sitting in fifth place at 20-17 in NSIC play, but is only two games out of fourth place Sioux Falls at 22-15 and three games out of third place Wayne State at 23-14. Behind SCSU is a log jam, with the 6-8 seeds only one game back and the 9-10 seeds two games back.
The Huskies will look to finish in the top-four of the NSIC for the 15th consecutive season dating back to 2010 (no conference games in 2020 due to the pandemic). The 2025 NSIC Baseball Tournament is scheduled for May 7-10 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
HOME RUN HITTERS
The Huskies have been led by its power threat throughout the season, hitting 56 home runs and slugging .483 on the season. SCSU's 56 home runs rank second in the NSIC, trailing only Minnesota State at 66, and are the fourth-most hit by a Husky team in program history, trailing only the 2016 (96), 2015 (62), 2010 (58) teams and matching the 2022 Huskies.
Senior Ethan Navratil (Albany, Minn.) has been a menace to pitchers all season, hitting 11 home runs, which ranks eighth in the league and is nearing the SCSU all-time top-10 list for a single season. Six Huskies have hit four or more bombs in 2025, as the Husky captain has been joined by sophomore Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) with nine, redshirt junior Liam Moreno (Sun Prairie, Wis.) with eight, redshirt sophomore Hayden Konkol (Denmark, Wis.) with six, and junior Wyatt Tweet (Russell, Manitoba) and redshirt junior Eric Bello (Manati, Puerto Rico) with four each.
NAV SAVING HIS BEST FOR LAST
Four-year starting first basemen senior Ethan Navratil (Albany, Minn.) will look to continue making his place in the St. Cloud State record book in his final collegiate season. The Husky senior is putting together a banner season, hitting a career-best .353 with 11 home runs and 53 RBI, leading the team in home runs and RBI. Previously, Navratil had not hit better than .289, which he hit in his 2023 sophomore campaign. Among conference leaders, Navratil ranks fifth in RBI (53) and eighth in home runs (11).
Navratil has joined SCSU's career top-10 list in numerous offensive categories this season. His 11th long ball of the season was his 30th career home run moved him into fifth place on SCSU's all-time home run list, while his 158 RBI ranks fourth all-time. Additionally, his 195 games played ranks sixth all-time among all Huskies while his 69 extra base hits rank right outside the top-10.
TOUGH ON THE MOUND
Redshirt junior Brady Nelson (Oro Valley, Ariz.) has anchored the Huskies' starting rotation, boasting a 6-1 record with a 4.13 ERA in eight starts and 11 appearances. Before moving into the rotation, Nelson has posted scoreless efforts in each of his three reliefs appearances, including a 3.2 inning outing against No. 5 Augustana on Feb. 24 where he struck out seven and allowed only one hit. In his eight starts, Nelson has earned the victory in five games, including a season-long 8.0 inning performance with a season-high two strikeouts in a no-decision against UMary on April 12.
Among conference leaders, Nelson ranks third in wins (six), fourth in home runs allowed (four), eighth in ERA (4.13) and eighth in opposing batting average (.245).
WEAPON OUT OF THE 'PEN
Redshirt senior Frankie Volkers (Maple Grove, Minn.) has been a key contributor out of the bullpen for the Huskies, posting eight saves and a 3-1 record with a 3.35 ERA in 40.1 innings pitched over two starts and 17 appearances. Volkers has been a strikeout machine, averaging 13.17 K/9 while holding opponents to a .228 batting average. The Husky senior's eight saves rank second in the NSIC and already rank as the second-most in a single season for a Husky, pulling even with Ryne Schwenke in 2011. Additionally, his eight saves rank 14th nationally.
Volkers made his first start of the season against Minnesota Crookston on April 23, where he logged six innings while giving up three earned runs on five hits with nine strikeouts. The nine punchouts were the most by a Husky in a game this season.
