NAV SAVING HIS BEST FOR LAST
Four-year starting first basemen senior Ethan Navratil (Albany, Minn.) will look to continue making his place in the St. Cloud State record book in his final collegiate season. The Husky senior has already jumped out to a scorching start to the season, hitting a career-best .349 with five home runs and a team-high 34 RBI. Previously, Navratil had not hit better than .289, which he hit in his 2023 sophomore campaign. The Husky captain has already produced a 16-game hit streak this season, as he has hit safely in all but five games this season.
His fifth long ball of the season was his 24th career home run moved him into eighth place on SCSU's all-time home run list, surpassing Mike Flanigan (23, 1996-99). The Husky senior tallied nine RBI in SCSU's last series against Northern State (April 5-6) to bring his career total to 139, which ranks seventh on SCSU's all-time list. This season, he could also join the top-10 lists in games played (currently at 175, No. 10 at 188) and extra base hits (currently at 58, No. 10 at 70).
TOUGH ON THE MOUND
Redshirt junior Brady Nelson (Oro Valley, Ariz.) has anchored the Huskies' starting rotation, boasting a 5-0 record with a 4.14 ERA in five starts and eight appearances. Before moving into the rotation, Nelson has posted scoreless efforts in each of his three reliefs appearances, including a 3.2 inning outing against No. 5 Augustana on Feb. 24 where he struck out a season-high seven and allowed only one hit. In his five starts, Nelson has earned the victory in four games, including a season-long 6.2 inning performance with four strikeouts and three runs allowed on March 15 against Southwest Minnesota State.
Among conference leaders, Nelson ranks second in wins (five), second in home runs allowed (two) and 10th in ERA (4.14).
WEAPON OUT OF THE 'PEN
Redshirt senior Frankie Volkers (Maple Grove, Minn.) has been a key contributor out of the bullpen for the Huskies, posting five saves with a 4.18 ERA in 23.2 innings pitched over 10 appearances. Volkers has been a strikeout machine, averaging 12.55 K/9 while holding opponents to a .239 batting average. The Husky senior's five saves already ranks as the eight-most in a single season for a Husky, pulling even with Tim Rademacher in 2009.

He notched his third save of the season in SCSU's 6-3 win on March 15, pitching 2.1 innings while only allowing one hit with three strikeouts. His outing was his third outing of 2.0+ innings this season. The Husky senior was then lights out in a 5-4 win on March 16, striking out all five batters he faced in 1.2 IP. He first worked the Huskies out of a two-men on jam in the eighth inning with back-to-back strikeouts and then struck out the side in the ninth to preserve the victory and clinch the series for SCSU.
