Huskies explode for 11 runs in sixth inning to take game 1 before winning in extra innings in game 2
GAME 1 – SCSU 19, CSP 7
The first game featured both teams trading runs through the first five innings before the Huskies pulled away by scoring 11 runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
SCSU grabbed a 3-1 lead in the second inning after capitalizing on a wild pitch, error and balk from CSP. The Huskies then scored three runs for the second consecutive inning in the third on a two-run home run from senior Ethan Navratil (Albany, Minn.) and an RBI single from Castro. The Golden Bears then cut SCSU's lead to 6-4 with two runs in the fourth before redshirt sophomore Hayden Konkol (Denmark, Wis.) hit two-RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to push the lead back to four runs. CSP then hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull within one run at 8-7, but SCSU responded in the bottom half of the inning.
Six Huskies had RBIs in the 11-run sixth inning, including a three-RBI double from junior Wyatt Tweet (Russell, Manitoba) and a two-run home run from Castro. Redshirt junior Eric Bello (Manati, Puerto Rico) and Konkol each had two-RBI doubles in the inning as well.
