St. Cloud State Baseball Ready for NSIC Tournament

Huskies will open NSIC Tournament against Sioux Falls on Wednesday
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Baseball (26-24, 22-18 NSIC) is set to open the 2025 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Baseball Tournament on Wednesday when the five-seeded Huskies face the four-seeded Sioux Falls Cougars (29-26, 25-15 NSIC) at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls, S.D. All games in the 2025 NSIC Tournament will be played at Ronken Field on the campus of Augustana or at the Birdcage in Sioux Falls.
SCSU finished the conference season at 22-18 and in fifth place, marking the 15th consecutive season the Huskies have finished in the top-five in the NSIC and 16th time in 17 seasons under head coach Pat Dolan (no season in 2020 due to pandemic).

ALL-NSIC HUSKIES
St. Cloud State Baseball had four student-athletes earn All-NSIC honors with redshirt junior Liam Moreno (Sun Prairie, Wis.) and senior Ethan Navratil (Albany, Minn.) earning first team honors, while sophomore Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and redshirt junior Brady Nelson (Oro Valley, Ariz.) earned second team honors. Additionally, Moreno and Navratil were named to the All-Defensive Team.
Moreno has blossomed into a standout at the hot corner in his first season playing for the Huskies. He is the fourth Husky to earn All-NSIC honors at third base and the fifth to earn All-Defensive honors at the hot corner. His selection gives SCSU back-to-back first team honors at the hot corner, following Cal James in 2024 and three overall, joining Jordan Smith in 2011. At the plate, Moreno is hitting .363 with a 1.039 OPS, eight home runs, 32 RBI, 15 doubles, 56 runs and 19 stolen bases. He leads the team in batting average, hits, runs, doubles and stolen bases, and ranks among the NSIC's top-10 in each category as well. In the field, Moreno produced a .990 fielding percentage with 34 putouts and 69 assists while committing just one error on the season.
Navratil earns his first all-conference selection and his second selection to the All-Defensive team after earning the honor as a freshman in 2022. He's the fifth Husky first basemen to earn All-NSIC honors and the first since jake Shusterich earned second team honors in 2021. Navratil has had a banner season in his final collegiate campaign, as he enters the NSIC Tournament hitting .359 with a 1.043 OPS, 12 home runs, 58 RBI and 11 doubles. Among NSIC leaders, the Husky senior ranks fifth in RBI (58) and eighth in home runs (12). In the field, Navratil has made just one error this season with 361 put outs and 19 assists for a .997 fielding percentage. He is the fourth Husky to earn two NSIC All-Defensive honors and the third to earn the honor at first base, following Mat Meyer in 2019 and himself in 2022. Navratil has solidified his spot in the SCSU record book, as his 12 home runs and 58 RBI both rank 10th on the single season program top-10 list. Among career program records, he ranks fifth in home runs (31), fifth in RBI (163), sixth in games played (195) and ninth in extra-base hits (72).
Castro has produced in the middle of the Huskies lineup all season, hitting .331 with a .977 OPS, 10 home runs, 37 RBI and 13 doubles. Among team leaders, he ranks second in home runs and third in batting average, OPS, RBI and doubles.
Nelson has anchored the Huskies pitching staff in his first season with the black and red, producing a 7-1 mark with a 3.95 ERA, 45 strikeouts and a .265 opposing batting average in nine starts and 12 appearances. Among NSIC leaders, he ranks second in wins (seven), third in home runs allowed (four) and sixth in ERA (3.95). He's earned the victory in five of nine starts he's made on the mound with six starts lasting five or more innings.
HOME RUN HITTERS
The Huskies have been led by its power threat throughout the season, hitting 60 home runs and slugging .483 on the season. SCSU's 60 home runs rank second in the NSIC, trailing only Minnesota State at 72, and are the third-most hit by a Husky team in program history, trailing only the 2016 (96) and 2015 (62).
Senior Ethan Navratil (Albany, Minn.) has been a menace to pitchers all season, hitting 12 home runs, which ranks eighth in the league and ranks 10th on SCSU's all-time top-10 list for a single season. Seven Huskies have hit four or more bombs in 2025, as the Husky captain has been joined by sophomore Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) with 10, redshirt junior Liam Moreno (Sun Prairie, Wis.) with eight, redshirt sophomore Hayden Konkol (Denmark, Wis.) with six, and junior Wyatt Tweet (Russell, Manitoba), senior Blaine Guthrie (Emerald, Wis.) and redshirt junior Eric Bello (Manati, Puerto Rico) have four each.

Previously, Navratil had not hit better than .289, which he hit in his 2023 sophomore campaign. Among conference leaders, Navratil ranks fifth in RBI (58) and eighth in home runs (12).
Navratil has joined SCSU's career top-10 list in numerous offensive categories this season. His 12th long ball of the season was his 31st career home run rank fifth on SCSU's all-time home run list, while his 163 RBI ranks fourth all-time. Additionally, his 195 games played ranks sixth all-time among all Huskies while his 72 extra base hits rank right ninth.
TOUGH ON THE MOUND
Redshirt junior Brady Nelson (Oro Valley, Ariz.) has anchored the Huskies' starting rotation, boasting a 7-1 record with a 3.95 ERA in nine starts and 12 appearances. Before moving into the rotation, Nelson has posted scoreless efforts in each of his three reliefs appearances, including a 3.2 inning outing against No. 5 Augustana on Feb. 24 where he struck out seven and allowed only one hit. In his nine starts, Nelson has earned the victory in six games, including a season-long 8.0 inning performance with a season-high two strikeouts in a no-decision against UMary on April 12.
Among conference leaders, Nelson ranks second in wins (seven), third in home runs allowed (four) and sixth in ERA (3.95).
WEAPON OUT OF THE 'PEN
Snubbed from all-conference recognition, redshirt senior Frankie Volkers (Maple Grove, Minn.) has been a key contributor out of the bullpen for the Huskies, posting eight saves and a 3-1 record with a 3.35 ERA in 40.1 innings pitched over two starts and 17 appearances. Volkers has been a strikeout machine, averaging 13.17 K/9 while holding opponents to a .228 batting average. The Husky senior's eight saves rank second in the NSIC and already rank as the second-most in a single season for a Husky, pulling even with Ryne Schwenke in 2011. Additionally, his eight saves rank 19th nationally.
Volkers made his first start of the season against Minnesota Crookston on April 23, where he logged six innings while giving up three earned runs on five hits with nine strikeouts. The nine punchouts were the most by a Husky in a game this season.
