Huskies Fall to Bemidji State, 37-20

St. Cloud State dropped to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in the NSIC North. The Huskies travel to Minot State next Saturday. Bemidji State improved to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the North Division and hold a share of the divisional lead.
St. Cloud State junior wide receiver Eli Shoemaker (Graham, Wash.) established individual career highs in all receiving categories with seven catches for 195 yards and three touchdowns. In the Huskies first play from scrimmage he caught a 74-yard touchdown pass that gave the Huskies their only lead of the game, 7-0. He is the first Husky receiver to go over the 150-yard game mark since Fred Williams during the 2010 season.
Shoemaker went over the 1,000 yard career receiving mark in the game. He has played in 34 career games and caught 69 passes for 1,184 yards and ten touchdowns.. His 74-yard reception was a career high.
Junior quarterback Phillip Klaphake (Princeton) completed 14 of 28 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns. He also threw two interceptions. Klaphake led the Huskies in rushing as he had nine carries for 38 yards.
Senior linebacker Mark Martin (Milwaukee, Wis.) had a game high ten tackles. Defensive end Bo Putrah (Faribault) had a career high three quarterback sacks and the Husky defense accounted for five sacks on the day. Sophomore end Jeff Bias (Racine, Wis.) and linebacker Thomas Johnson (Little Canada) each had nine tackles. Bias also had one quarterback sack and two tackles for loss.
Rongstad rushed for 115 yards on 21 carries and scored three touchdowns. He completed 17 of 25 passes for 226 yards and one touchdown. Justin Lee and Matt Gandrud each caught four passes and Lee collected a touchdown.
The Beavers finished the day with 453 yards of total offense while the Huskies accumulated 297 yards. Bemidji State controlled the ball with 40:52 of possession time.
This is the Beavers second straight win over the Huskies. Last season, BSU defeated SCSU 19-14 in Bemidji. The Huskies had won seven straight prior to that loss.
