Huskies Claim 36-24 Win Over Minnesota, Crookston

SCSU is 3-0 on the road in 2012
St. Cloud State is 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the NSIC North. Minnesota, Crookston is 1-overall and 0-2 in the North Division.
The win puts SCSU at 3-0 on the road this season and is the ninth straight over the Golden Eagles.
St. Cloud State scored on three of their four first half possessions, twice on the first play from scrimmage. Junior quarterback Phillip Klaphake (Princeton) hit junior wide receiver Eli Shoemaker (Graham, Wash.) on the Huskies first offensive play, a 74-yard touchdown reception to give the Huskies an early 7-0 lead.
The Huskies scored late in the first on a three-yard pass play from Klaphake to junior receiver Chad Peterson (Winona) to take a 14-0 lead.
St. Cloud State scored twice in the final six minutes of the first half. Junior running back Michael Walker (Walworth, Wis.) scored on a 14-yard run at 5:43. On the Huskies final possession of the half, and the first play of the series, Klaphake found Shoemaker again with a 36-yard completion to give the Huskies a 27-3 half-time lead.
Redshirt first-year tight end Grant Thayer (Appleton, Wis.) caught his first collegiate touchdown pass on a 19-yard play late in the third quarter. SCSU tacked on two more points when redshirt first-year linebacker Patrick Faber (Fridley) blocked a punt out of the end zone and the Huskies took a 36-3 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Klaphake finished the game ten of 18 passing for 229 yards and one interception. He threw four touchdown passes and rushed for another 71 yards. He moved into second place on the all-time passing yards chart with his performance. He has 6,505 career passing yards.
Walker added 36 yards on the ground and redshirt first-year runningback Ledell White (Milwaukee, Wis.) added 33 yards rushing.
Shoemaker made both of his catches count as he gained 110 yards on two catches and scored two touchdowns. Peterson had a team high five catches for 45 yards and one touchdown.
The Huskies finished the game with 439 yards of total offense and held UMC to 363 yards of offense.
Defensively for the Huskies senior linebacker Thomas Johnson (Little Canada) had a game high 12 tackles. Sophomore end Luke Sebald (Brookfield, Wis.) had two quarterback sacks and noseguard Nick Goldsmith (Shoreview) notched 2.5 tackles for loss with six total tackles.
Minnesota, Crookston was led by quarterback A. J. Barge with 22 completions for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Runningback Richard Haley finished with 91 yards rushing. Josh Ross caught eight passes for 67 yards and one touchdown.
