Huskies post 20-13 NSIC North Division football win at U-Mary

Bismarck, N.D. – Senior runningback Michael Walker (Walworth, Wis.) rushed for two touchdowns and senior Dan Brown (Robbinsdale) made a 41-yard touchdown reception to lead St. Cloud State University to a 20-13 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) win over the University of Mary Saturday afternoon in Bismarck.

The Huskies, ranked #25 in the AFCA Division II poll this week improved to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC North. U-Mary dropped to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC North. St. Cloud State will host Northern State next Saturday , 4 p.m. at Husky Stadium.
Walker scored on one-yard runs in the first and fourth quarters. His first touchdown was set up by a 64-yard fumble return by senior defensive tackle Jeff Bias (Racine, Wis.). Bias returned the ball to the Mary one-yard line where Walker punched it in.
Walker finished the game with 14 carries for 75 yards.
Brown scored on a 41-yard touchdown play at 11:01 of the second quarter and the Huskies took a 14-0 lead into halftime.
Mary scored 13 second half points on a 34-yard Tyler Ryan field goal at 3:49 of the third quarter. With under five minutes left in the game, U-Mary scored on a touchdown pass from Craig Bagnell to Jeremy Maryfield. The Marauders finished out the scoring with a 39-yard Ryan field goal. The Huskies Jack Moro recovered the ensuing onside kick and SCSU held on to the ball for the win.
Senior quarterback Phillip Klaphake (Princeton) completed 12 of 26 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown for the Huskies Eli Shoemaker, Damon Treat and Michael Walker each caught two passes. Redshirt first-year runningback Kenneth Walker (Walworth, Wis.) had eight carries for 98 yards.
Defensively, senior back Marvin Matthews (Roseville) had a team and season high ten tackles for the Huskies. Senior linebacker Todd Bestgen (Rochester) had nine tackles, a quarterback sack and 1.5 tackles for loss. Senior linebacker Tate Christopherson (Maple Grove) had eight tackles, one QB sack and one tackle for loss.
Marauders quarterback Craig Bagnell completed 31 of 53 passes for 264 yards and one touchdown. Jeremy Mayfield caught a game high nine passes for 76 yards and a touchdown.
