Women's Hoops Falls in NSIC Tournament Battle vs. Winona State, 45-47

St. Cloud, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team hosted second round NSIC/Sanford Health tournament play this afternoon at Halenbeck Hall. They faced Winona State University and came up short in a season-ending loss, 45-47. The Huskies finish their 2012-13 season with a 19-9 overall record.
The Huskies had two players finish in double-figures. Sophomore forward Jessica Benson (Grand Meadow) posted 14 points and eight rebounds. Senior guard Nicole Anderson (Cannon Falls) finished with 12 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Eight of Anderson's boards came on the offensive end. She also dished out three assists and grabbed four steals. Anderson finishes her career with 263 steals, putting her in 4th place on the all-time steals list.
Becca Friestleben led the Winona State Warriors with 15 points on six of ten shooting.
St. Cloud State entered the half trailing 18-23. The Huskies shot just 25% from the field and 17% from three point range. It wasn't until the nine minute mark in the second half that the Huskies came to play. Down 27-36, a jumper by Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) followed by two free throw shots, a jumper, and a three point basket by Jessica Benson tied the game at 36-36. From here on, it was a battle until the final buzzer. With just 46 second on the clock the Huskies trailed 43-44. Senior forward Morgan Lof (Detroit Lakes) hit a jumper to put the Huskies up 45-44. Winona State's Marieanna Dulas nailed a shot from behind the arc to put the Warriors up 47-45 with just seven seconds remaining. The Huskies couldn't connect on their final possession, losing the battlle to the Warriors.
Winona State improves to 21-10 this season and will advance to the NSIC quarterfinals in Rochester on Friday, March 8.

Five seniors played their final game at Halenbeck Hall tonight. Nicole Anderson, Morgan Lof, Jamie Noonan, Reyan Robinson and Amanda Wagner finish their careers on a high note as the team was awarded for their NSIC North Division Championship after today's game. Congratulations to the senior players.
