#4 Bulldogs down Huskies football, 44-21

St. Cloud, Minn. – Fourth-ranked Minnesota Duluth posted a 44-21 win over St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon in an NSIC North Division game played at Husky Stadium.
The win was the sixth straight for the Bulldogs who are 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the NSIC North. The Huskies are 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the North Division.
Minnesota Duluth hosts Northern State next Saturday while the Huskies are on the road at MSU Moorhead.
St. Cloud State held the Bulldogs on the first drive of the game and went on to score the first points of the game when sophomore quarterback Nate Meyer found sophomore receiver Joe Mooney on a 39-yard pass play just two minutes into the game.
Minnesota Duluth answered with three touchdowns including runs of one and eight yards by Logan Lauters to take a 21-7 lead before the Huskies Taylor Berger found Grant Thayer on a fake field goal attempt to cut the Bulldogs lead to 21-14 at the half.
Huskies Highlights
- Nate Meyer threw for two touchdowns of 39 and 14 yards and finished the game 20 of 30 passing for 202 yards.
- Junior tight end Grant Thayer caught two passes in the game, both for touchdowns of 18 and 14 yards.
- The Huskies were held to 58 yards on the ground and finished the game with 309 yards of total offense
- Senior defensive back Kyle Rising had seven tackles include two for losses
- Sophomore linebacker Adam Josephson had seven tackles as well
- Senior defensive tackle Riley Kampsen recorded the Huskies lone quarterback sack
- Sophomore wide receiver Matt Hentges had five catches for 53 yards.
Bulldogs Highlights
- Quarterback Drew Bauer threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third score to lead the Bulldogs. He finished the game with with 82 rushing yards and completed 20 of 31 passes for 326 yards.The Bulldogs have won 14 straight regular season games and are 38-2 in NSIC North Division games (since 2008).
- Zach Zweifel caught five passes for 103 yards and one touchdown
- Runningback Beau Bofferding also caught five passes for 91 yards and one touchdown
- Logan Lauters ran for two touchdowns and 74 yards on ten carries.Grady Gavin led all players with ten tackles
- The Bulldogs gained 522 yards of total offense.
