No. 9 Huskies & No. 3 Mavericks Square off Wednesday

St. Cloud, Minn. - No. 9 St. Cloud State is set to take on rival Minnesota State in a doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 12:30 p.m., at the MSU Baseball Complex. Both teams enter the twin bill as two of the top-three teams in the league sporting just four losses each in conference play.

The Huskies stand 28-7 overall and 16-4 in conference play after winning three of four contests in a series at Upper Iowa last weekend. The Huskies are batting .352 as a team and averaging 7.7 runs per game with 10 individuals batting over .300 led by sophomore Reese Gregory who is hitting .474 with a home run, five doubles, eight runs and 15 RBI. Gregory ranks first amongst NCAA Division II baseball players with a .72 WHIP ranking and second with a 0.50 ERA this spring.
Junior Eric Loxtercamp is hitting .392 with a team-high 12 doubles and 42 runs scored in addition to 33 RBI. SCSU holds a 2.65 team earned run average and has surrendered a .227 opponent batting average to date. Senior Chris Kubitz stands 4-2 with a 1.69 ERA and 50 strikeouts over 42.2 innings, while Gregory has totaled five saves and a 7-1 ledger with a 0.50 ERA out of the bullpen.
Minnesota State holds a 34-7 overall record and a 22-4 NSIC record. The Mavericks' Max Waletich currently leads the Mavericks in batting average (.403), on-base percentage (.471) and hits (60) while tying for first with Eric Peterson in triples (2). On the mound, Jason Hoppe leads the staff in wins (8), innings pitched (59.2) and strikeouts (70); while Bryce Bellin has led the way in ERA (1.90) and opponent batting average (.222).
The Huskies are finally set to host their 2014 series home opener on April 26-27 as they will play host to the Bemidji State Beavers. Saturday's twin bill will get underway at 2 p.m. with Sunday's first pitch set for 12 p.m. from Joe Faber Field.
