Baseball Sweeps Minot State Saturday, 5-4 & 12-2

Minot, N.D. - St. Cloud State baseball was back in action with some juggling of the schedule as they traveled to take on Minot State April 5-6. The Huskies took Saturday's doubleheader with a 5-4 win in game one and rolled over the Beavers in game two 12-2.
In game one, the Huskies went up on the Beavers 3-0 in the second inning as they posted two hits and one error on Minot. Getting the inning going was Garrett Fischer with a triple to right field. Scoring was stagnant for a couple innings until the top of the fifth when St. Cloud extended their lead to 4-0, scoring off a single through the right side by Zach Hoffmann.
The Beavers came back to tie the game up in the bottom of the fifth scoring four runs on four hits including a three-run home run by AJ Begay for a 4-4 game.
St. Cloud sealed their fate in game one scoring one run in the top of the eighth off a single to center field by Sam Boisner. Boisner led the Huskies at the plate going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Putting in six innings on the mound was senior Kyle Fischer striking out 11 batters and earning the win for his fifth of the season was sophomore Reese Gregory. Gregory pitched two innings allowing only two hits and struck out three.
The Huskies got the bats going early in game two scoring one run in the first and second innings for a 2-0 lead. Scoring came on a single by Zak Hoffman in the first and in the second it was Brandon Arnold reaching on an error by the second baseman to bring in a run. Extending their lead in the third, St. Cloud scored four runs on one hit and two errors by Minot for a 6-0 lead.
Minot made it a 6-1 game scoring one run in the bottom of the third inning off two hits but that St. Cloud was not done as they tallied one run in the fourth and fifth inning and then sealed a 12-1 lead scoring four runs on four hits in the seventh. Eric Loxtercamp doubled down the leftfield line for two runs and back-to-back doubles by Garrett Fischer and Zach Hoffmann for one run each.
The Beavers tried to make a run in the bottom of the seventh but were only able to put up one run for a 12-2 final.
Starting on the mound and earning the victory was Corey Fitzgerald as he pitched five innings and struck out four batters. Also seeing action was Nick Maiers and Scott Sanderson.
