St. Cloud State Baseball picks up two wins in Phoenix

In game one, SCSU charted 21 hits in the contest against Bemidji State. The Huskies jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and continued their run with three runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to gain a 13-5 lead. SCSU added two more runs in the eighth inning to ice the contest at 15-6.
On the mound, Logan Spitzack was the pitcher of record for the Huskies with 6.0 innings of work that featured 10 hits allowed and three strikeouts. Reliever Kevin Bolder finished the final 3.0 innings of the contest for the Huskies with two hits, one run and four strikeouts.
At the plate, Zach Hoffmann had three hits and three RBIs to pace the Huskies and Brandon Arnold had three hits, two runs and one triple in the game. Kyle Lieser was another star at the plate for the Huskies with four hits, three RBIs and two runs and Beau Fandel had four runs and two hits in the contest. Other Huskies with two hits in the game included Eric Loxtercamp, Karl Sorensen and Zak Hoffman.
In the night cap, SCSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a triple by Arnold and a double by Mike Jurgella in the first inning. In the second inning, a two run bomb by Hoffman provided the Huskies with a 4-0 lead. In the fifth inning, Loxtercamp scores Lieser on an RBI ground out to push SCSU's lead to 5-0.
ACU broke the shutout with a solo run in the sixth inning before the Huskies's Jackson Goplen cranked out an RBI single to make it 6-1 in the seventh inning. SCSU starting pitcher Sheldon Miks finished the final two innings with no runs allowed and just 89 pitches in the game. Miks gained the one-run complete game win that pushed the Huskies' overall record this season to 9-0, 0-0 NSIC.
The Huskies will return to Tucson, Ariz. on March 10 for a 5 p.m. match against Briar Cliff College.
