The St. Cloud State University football team (1-0, 1-0 NSIC) opened its 2015 season with a big 28-10 victory over Concordia-St. Paul (0-1, 0-1 NSIC) on Thursday, Sept 3 at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Huskies were led to the victory by the runningback tandem of sophomore Jaden Huff and senior Ledell White, who both had two touchdowns apiece in the contest. The Huskies have now won four consecutive games dating back to the 2014 season and three consecutive games at Husky Stadium.
St. Cloud State opened the attack with an 8-yard scoring run by White at 6:40 of the first quarter. The Huskies then stretched their lead to 14-0 with a 15-yard scoring dash by Huff at 1:57 of the first quarter.
Concordia-St. Paul broke the shutout at 9:57 of the second quarter with a 43-yard field goal by Jonas Schenderlein to make it 14-3 in favor of SCSU. The Huskies padded their lead at 6:22 of the 2nd quarter with a one-yard scoring tally by Huff to make it 21-3 at the half.
In the third quarter, Concordia-St. Paul's Bruce Russell snagged a 17-yard TD pass from quarterback Corey Cole to make it 21-10. In the closing minutes of the third quarter, White hit paydirt again with a 17-yard scoring run that made the final score 28-10.
HUSKIES HIGHLIGHTS:
Senior Ledell White had 107 yards rushing in the game on 19 carries for SCSU. Sophomore Jaden Huff ranked second on the ground for the Huskies with 51 yards on eight carries.Jaden Huff Of note, White now has 17 rushing TDs in his career and 19 TDs overall.
Junior quarterback Nate Meyer went 11-21-0 in the air for the Huskies with 141 yards passing. He directed the Huskies to 295 yards of total offense, while CSP had 358 yards of total offense (188 rush/170 pass).
SCSU had no turnovers in the contest, while the Huskies' defense had one pass interception and two fumble recoveries by Keyshawn Davis. He also had six tackles in the contest. These were the first fumble recoveries in Davis' two seasons at SCSU.
Senior Jordan Sefon paced the SCSU defense with 10 tackles (7 solo/3 assist), while Carvel Graham had eight tackles (5 solo/3 assist).
Brady Westart added two sacks for a loss of eight yards and Brad Lyons had one sack and two tackles for a loss in the contest.
SCSU owns a 4-0 all-time record against Concordia-St. Paul. The series dates back to 2010, when the Huskies posted a 35-10 victory over the Golden Bears.
