St. Cloud State Volleyball Falls to #13 Northern State 3-0

St. Cloud, Minn.- The St. Cloud State volleyball team fell in straight sets to #13 Northern State on Oct. 15 at Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies (8-12, 3-8 NSIC) stayed competitive but the Wolves (14-5, 7-4 NSIC) were able to take the match with set victories of 25-13, 25-19, and 25-21.
Northern State's offense started the game hot right from the start getting their team out to a lead from the first set. The Huskies offense meanwhile struggled to get going early, and the Wolves were quick to take advantage and took the first set quickly.
The Huskies turned the momentum in their favor in the second set, getting ahead of Northern State 10-7 before the Wolves battled back to tie the game at 14-14 before taking the lead over from the Huskies. The set remained tight but the Wolves were able to outlast the Huskies and take the second set.
Both teams came out strong in the third set, with the game going point for point until the Wolves were able to pull away in the final points on the heels of their strong offensive attack to take the set and the match.
The Huskies were led in the match by senior Macy Weller who contributed eight kills, two blocks, and a service ace. Shannon Klink added seven kills, eight digs, and a block. Senior setter Marissa Kline dished out 27 assists while also picking up 5 digs. Nicole Miller led the Huskies service game with two aces on the match.
Northern State was led by Holly Vancura with 14 kils, while Ashley Rozell efficiently ran the offense with 43 assists.
The Huskies next travel north to Duluth to take on the #1 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. Fans can watch the game here or keep up with the live stats here. The Huskies will follow their trek to Duluth with two games this weekend down south when they travel to take on Augustana University and Wayne State University for games Oct. 21 and 22.
St. Cloud State returns home Oct. 28-29 when they play host to Southwest Minnesota State University and Sioux Falls.
