St. Cloud State Volleyball Defeats Bemidji State in Sauk Centre

Sauk Centre, Minn.- It was an especially special homecoming for senior Macy Weller as she led the Huskies to a 3-1 victory over the Bemidji State Beavers in a non-conference match on Oct. 4.
St. Cloud State (6-10, 1-6 NSIC) started strong winning the first set 25-22, and holding Bemidji State's two leading hitters to negative hitting percentages.St. Cloud State meanwhile was able to hit at an effecient rate with Micah Nier hitting .667 and Becca Gruber hitting .571.
Bemidji State (5-11, 1-6 NSIC) rebounded quickly in the second set led by Emma Hallmann's strong serving. St. Cloud State's serving meanwhile was plagued with errors, and the Beavers took the set 25-19.
Bemidji jumped out to a quick lead in the third set, but the Huskies never stopped battling, turning a 19-13 Bemidji State lead down to a narrow 18-20 deficit. That's when Nicole Miller headed back to the service line, when her tough serving brought her team back into the lead at 22-20. The Huskies were able to convert on the heels of Miller's serving and took set three 25-21.
St. Cloud State was able to maintain their momentum into the fourth set and jumped out to a 18-10 lead over the Beavers. Bemidji State challenged the Huskies and drew within two points at 19-17. Huskies senior Shannon Klink solidified a Husky victory, however when she had two back to back service aces to get the Huskies to match point. After Bemidji was able to side out the Huskies closed up the set to take the match 25-18.
Hometown hero Macy Weller led the Huskies with 12 kills, and also contributed two aces, and three blocks for St. Cloud State. Marissa Kline dished out 42 digs and seven kills on the night. Clara Krenz lead the way on defense with 17 digs with Miller and Shannon Klink also recording double digit digs with 12 and 10 respectively.
Bemidji State was lead offensively by Jessica Yost with 14 kills, while Shleby Haney had 31 assists, and Hallmann registered 14 digs.
St. Cloud State returns to action this weekend when they travel to Minot State University and University of Mary on Oct. 7-8. The Huskies will return to their home court in Halenbeck Hall Oct. 14-15 when they host Minnesota State Moorhead and Northern State. Tickets are still available for all Huskies' home games and can be purchased at the gate or at scsutickets.com. Students, don't forget that simply showing your ID will get you into all home athletic events for FREE!
