St. Cloud State Softball falls twice on Feb. 12

In game one, Jamestown jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and stretched the lead to 7-0 in the top of the second inning.
The Huskies broke into the scoring column in the bottom of the second inning with runs scored by Libby Bingham and Jordin Novak. In the third inning, SCSU climbed back into contention with two more runs by Taige Puetz and Brianne Hightshoe.
Jamestown scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to make it 9-4. Samantha Boettcher, Abby Bunnell, Puetz and Alyssa Coletto continued the SCSU rally with one run apiece to make the tally 9-8 heading into the fifth.
The Jimmies replied with one one in the fifth, a run in the sixth inning and a run in the seventh to push its margin to 12-8. In the top of bottom of the seventh, the Huskies added runs by Megan Hedstrom and Megan Larkin to make the final score 12-10.
In the game, Jamestown outhit SCSU 16-13. Megan Hedstrom was the pitcher of record for SCSU, while Kate Kopeck finished the final four innings of the game for SCSU with three strikeouts to her credit.
Jessica Goerger, Tricia DeBoer and Novak all had two hits in the game for SCSU.
In the second game, Jamestown gained a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Huskies rallied with one run in the first and two runs in the second inning. The Jimmies then regained the lead with five runs in the top of the sixth that ended the day's scoring at 6-3 in the second game. In the contest, SCSU outhit Jamestown 8-7. Bunnell led the Huskies with two hits in the game.
Senna Francesconi suffered the loss for SCSU with 5.1 innings of work. She struck out two in the game and allowed six hits.
The Huskies will finish their weekend in the Husky Dome with a pair of games against UW-Parkside on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m.
