SCSU Women's Basketball Falls To Concordia-St. Paul In First Round, 83-72

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State women's basketball team hosted first round NSIC/Sanford Health tournament play this evening at Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies faced Concordia-St. Paul ending their season with a final score of 83-72.
St. Cloud State finished their 2015-16 season with a 13-14 overall record.
The Huskies had three players finish in double-digits. Senior forward Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) led the Huskies with 20 points and 6 rebounds. LeCaptain made 7 of 15 from the field and was a perfect six for six from the line. Sophomore guard Andrea Thomas (Mauston, Wis.) recorded a season-high 18 points. Thomas also dished out five assists. Junior guard Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) added 14 points and 5 assists.
Anna Schmitt led all players with 26 points for the Golden Bears.
The only lead changes of the evening came in the first quarter as the Huskies were down 15-11. St. Cloud State entered halftime trailing Concordia, 30-27. The Huskies shot 37% from the field and 22.2% from the three point range. Concordia-St. Paul shot 46.2% from the field and 36.4% from behind the arc.
Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) led the Huskies with 12 points at the beak and shot 5-of-9 from the field. Lauren Novak (Eau Claire, Wis.) added six points and five rebounds.
Overall, St. Cloud State shot 42.6% from the field, while Concordia shot 56.6%. The Golden Bears scored 34 in the paint compared to the Huskies 18. There were three lead changes in the first quarter with one tied score. Concordia-St. Paul recorded their largest lead of the evening at the 5:31 mark in the fourth quarter by 12 points. The Huskies lost the rebounding battle 27-32.
Concordia-St. Paul improves to 14-15 overall and will advance to the NSIC quarterfinals in Sioux Falls on Sunday, Feb. 28. The Golden Bears will take on the Warriors of Winona State.
