St. Cloud State to open NSIC campaign at Wayne State

The #1 St. Cloud State University baseball team (15-0, 0-0 NSIC) will open defense of its NSIC title with a series of league games at Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. this weekend. Â The Huskies are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Wayne State begining at Noon on March 25 and they will wrap up the weekend on March 26 with another Noon doubleheader against Wayne State. Â All games are weather permitting and subject to change.

Wayne State will enter the contests this weekend with a 3-12, 0-0 NSIC record. Â The Wildcats most recently lost a 12-10 match against Nebraska Kearney on March 16 at home.

SCSU BASEBALL NEWS AND NOTES:
- The St. Cloud State University baseball team was ranked number one in the nation by the Collegiate Baseball Division II poll on March 21.
- SCSU was also ranked number one in this week's prestigious NCBWA Division II national poll..
- The Huskies also gained the number one spot in this week's NCBWA Division II Central Region poll.
- SCSU owns a 15-0 overall record and is slated to open NSIC play this weekend at Wayne State, weather permitting.
- SCSU rookie Judd Davis paces all NCAA Division II players this spring with a .618 batting average in 2016. Â He also leads NCAA DII players with an on base percentage of .690 this year.
- The Huskies also lead the nation at the plate with a .393 batting average.
- SCSU leads the nation with 3.53 doubles per game in 2016.
- SCSU also paces all Division II teams this spring with a scoring average of 11.9 runs per game.
- SCSU ranks third among NCAA DII squads this year with a .611 slugging percentage.
- Kyle Lieser ranks eighth in the nation with an average of 0.57 doubles per game this spring for the Huskies.
- Karl Sorensen paces SCSU this fall with 28 hits and 23 RBIs.
- Pitcher Sheldon Miks is 4-0 this season with a team leading 27 strikeouts.
- SCSU finished the 2015 season with a first place record of 31-3 in the always rugged NSIC and the Huskies also won the 2015 NSIC postseason tournament. Â Overall, SCSU was 54-5 in 2015.
