SCSU baseball splits NSIC doubleheader against CSP

The #1 St. Cloud State University baseball team (26-2, 11-2 NSIC) split an NSIC twinbill at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn. on Wednesday, April 13. In game one, the Huskies lost a close 7-5 decision before coming back to win game two by an 11-4 decision.
In game two, Kevin Bolder pitched 7.0 innings to gain the victory for the Huskies. Â He allowed just six hits and four runs in the game, while striking out four and allowing no walks. Â Logan Spitzack and Miles Nablo finished the final two innings to help lead SCSU to the victory.
SCSU outhit CSP by a 14-7 margin in game two, which included a first inning home run by Brandon Arnold and a homer in the sixth by Logan Swann. Â Arnold, Zach Hoffmann, Zak Hoffman, Judd Davis and Swann all had two hits in the game. Â Swann led the Huskies with four RBIs in the game, while Davis had two RBIs.
The Huskies tallied one run in the first and capped the game with six runs in the fourth inning before adding one run in the fifth, two in the sixth and one more in the eighth. Â CSP scored two runs in the second and two runs in the sixth.
In game one, SCSU gained a 1-0 lead in the first inning before CSP rallied with three runs in the top of the third. Â SCSU answered with a run in the bottom of the third before a grand slam in the sixth inning CSP's Connor Olson iced the contest for the Golden Bears. Â A Kyle Lieser homer in the bottom of the seven made the final 7-5 for the Huskies.
Sheldon Miks was the pitcher of record for SCSU with 6.0 innings of work, while David Kroger finished the last inning of the contest for SCSU. Â Both CSP and SCSU each had nine hits apiece in the game. Â Karl Sorensen led the way for SCSU with three hits, while Lieser had two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Â Of note, Sorensen had a single, double and triple in the game for SCSU.
The Huskies will return to action on Saturday, April 16 with a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader at Joe Faber Field against Augustana University. Â SCSU and Augie will complete the NSIC weekend with another doubleheader at Noon on Sunday, April 17. Â Tickets for these games may be purchased at the gate. Â All SCSU students with a valid SCSU student ID card will be admitted FREE to these games.
