Huskies improves to 21-0 with two game sweep at SMSU

The #1 ranked St. Cloud State University baseball continued its winning ways in 2016 with a doubleheader sweep at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn. on Monday, April 4. The Huskies charted an 8-2 win in game one and then scored a 24-13 victory in game two.
In the four game series against SMSU, the Huskies scored an amazing tally of 61 runs, while allowing just 19 runs against the Mustangs. The Huskies own a perfect 21-0 record this season and are 6-0 in the always rugged NSIC. SCSU was recently ranked #1 in this week's Collegiate Baseball Division II national poll on April 4.
The Huskies will continue their 2016 season on Wednesday, April 6 with SCSU's home opener at 1:30 p.m. doubleheader against Minnesota State University. The game is scheduled to be played at St. Cloud's beautiful Joe Faber Field. Tickets for the game are available at the gate on game day.
In game one, the Huskies rolled to an 8-2 victory as Tyler Gentz gained the win with three hits allowed and eight strikeouts. David Kroger finished the game in relief with two strikeouts. In the game, SCSU outhit the Mustangs 12-3.
At the plate, Zach Hoffmann was on fire with three hits, two runs and two RBIs. He charted a home run in the game, while Brandon Arnold, Zach Metzger and Reese Gregory (2) had doubles in the game. Of note, Zak Hoffman, Judd Davis and Gregory all had two hits in the game.
To finish the day at SMSU, the Huskies enjoyed an offensive explosion with 24 runs and 26 hits in the win over the Mustangs. Miles Nablo won the game in relief for the Huskies, as he pitched 2.2 innings.
At the plate, SCSU had seven runs in the second inning to gain a 9-5 lead and then the Huskies completed the game with five runs apiece in the eighth and ninth innings to make the final 24-13. Kyle Lieser, Karl Sorensen, Zach Hoffmann and Zak Hoffman all had four hits apiece in the game.
Brandon Arnold had three hits and scored six runs in the game. He was one of four SCSU players to hit a home run in the game along with Hoffmann, Hoffman and Gregory. Hoffman capped his day with seven RBIs in the contest while Hoffmann had four RBIs in the game for the Huskies.
