COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the fourth consecutive season, CBS Sports Network will once again serve as the premier national television partner of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) with the Network set to broadcast 14 games live throughout the 2016-17 campaign. This television schedule will include three games featuring the St. Cloud State University men's hockey team.
All eight NCHC teams will host a nationally televised contest on CBS Sports Network during the upcoming season. Games on CBS Sports Network will air from 10 venues in all, with the Frozen Faceoff at Target Center once again being televised, as well as one game from Madison Square Garden in New York City. Every NCHC team will appear on CBS Sports Network at least twice in 2016-17.
CBS Sports Network's coverage of the NCHC will occur mostly during the second half of the season, with one contest to be televised prior to the New Year. Ten of the televised games will take place on Fridays during the second half of the regular season as NCHC teams battle it out for the Penrose Cup. CBS Sports Network will also feature a pair of doubleheader telecasts during the regular season, in addition to the Frozen Faceoff semifinals.
The Huskies first appearance on CBS Sports Network in 2016-17 will take place on Feb. 3 at North Dakota. SCSU will return to the nation airwaves on Feb. 10 with a home date against Miami and the final CBS date is Feb. 24 at Denver.
"We look forward to another great year of NCHC hockey with college hockey's leader for TV, CBS Sports Network," NCHC Commissioner Josh Fenton said. "CBS Sports Network has put together another fantastic schedule, leading off with the College Hockey Showdown at Madison Square Garden December 3rd and culminating with the Frozen Faceoff in March."
The 2016-17 CBS Sports Network schedule opens Saturday, Dec. 3 with two of last season's Frozen Four teams facing off against each other in the College Hockey Showdown at Madison Square Garden. The unique event, co-hosted by the NCHC and MSG, features defending national champion North Dakota against Hockey East foe Boston College, which is the lone non-conference game of the season to air on CBS Sports Network. Start time for the College Hockey Showdown has been moved up to 7:30 p.m. ET (was 8 p.m. ET).
The first conference game on CBS Sports Network this season will take place on Friday, Jan. 6 when Minnesota Duluth hosts Colorado College at 7:30 p.m. CT (8:30 p.m. ET). After a week off, the CBS Sports Network schedule resumes Jan. 20 when UMD travels to take on North Dakota at Ralph Engelstad Arena with the broadcast also set for 7:30 p.m. CT.
The first doubleheader on CBS Sports Network takes place Friday Jan. 27, when Miami hosts rival Western Michigan at 7 p.m. ET, followed by Omaha at Denver at 9:30 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. local). The other televised doubleheader is on Friday, Feb. 17 when WMU welcomes North Dakota to Lawson Ice Arena at 7 p.m. ET, while the nightcap features the Bulldogs of UMD at Colorado College at 9:30 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. local).
The final two Fridays of the regular season will each feature one game on CBS Sports Network. On the penultimate weekend in the pursuit of the Penrose Cup, St. Cloud State heads west to Magness Arena for a 10 p.m. ET (8 p.m. local) telecast on Feb. 24 against Denver. The final regular-season broadcast is March 3, when the Pioneers hit the road for a return game against the Mavericks. The telecast is set for 8:30 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. local).
As has been the case in the conference's first three years, CBS Sports Network will again televise the NCHC Frozen Faceoff, airing both semifinals and the championship game live from Target Center in Minneapolis. The two semifinals will take place on Friday, March 17 with the first semifinal set for 5 p.m. ET (4 p.m. local) and the second slated for 8:30 p.m. ET. The championship game will then take place the next day, Saturday, March 18, with the broadcast also starting at 8:30 p.m. ET as the Frozen Faceoff Trophy is awarded.
