Football Opens NSIC North Play Against Minnesota Crookston This Weekend

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University football team (1-3) is on the road to Crookston, Minn. this weekend to take on Minnesota Crookston (0-4) on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 2 p.m. at Edwiseth Field in the NSIC North Division opener for both schools.

- The Golden Eagles have lost their first four games to start the season to Winona State, Concordia-St. Paul, No. 18 Augustana and Southwest Minnesota State
 - The program fell to SMSU at home last weekend by a 47-13 score
 - UMC tied the game up at seven all in the second quarter, but saw the Mustangs score 14 before the break and another 19 points in the third quarter to take full control.
 - Minnesota Crookston quarterback Nathan Cole completed 13 passes for 119 yards and touchdown.
 - Andre Person totaled 22 carries for 82 yards
 - Adam Connette hauled in nine passes for 108 yards against SMSU.
 - Will Cross led the team with his 12 tackles plus had a stop for loss.
 - Ali Alkhatib recorded 10 tackles and a forced fumble.
 - Person has been the program's top back this season with his 238 yards on the ground plus four catches for 30 yards as a receiver.
 - Cole has connected on 60-of-95 passes for 516 yards and a touchdown.
 - Connette has been the team's top receiver with his 252 yards on 24 catches.
 - Alkhatib leads the team in tackles with 32 plus has four stops for loss and two forced fumbles.
 - Bubba Cook has a team leading five tackles for loss and three sacks.
 - The UMC defense has seven sacks, eight pass breakups, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries this season.
 
- SCSU is 12-0 all-time against Minnesota Crookston in the previous 12 meetings
 - The Huskies have outscored the Golden Eagles by a 677-122 score in those 12 contests
 - The last time these two teams met was last season in St. Cloud (10/3/15) with SCSU getting the 62-14 victory.
 - Nate Meyer ran for 70 yards and a touchdown plus connected on 14-of-19 passes for 280 yards and three more scores.
 - Jameson Parsons hauled in six passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns.
 - When the programs last met in Crookston the Huskies were also able to defeat the Golden Eagles by a 45-24 score during the 2014 season.
 - The series dates back to 2003 with SCSU winning the first contest 66-7

 - Cox, a familiar voice to the program, makes a return to the booth as the Huskies' play-by-play broadcaster and SCSU alum Overlund is in his first year as the color analyst. Fans can hear all 11 games this season on AM 1240 WJON – the new broadcast home for Huskies football this season.  The SCSU football pre-game show begins 30 minutes prior to kick-off for all games this season.

- The Scott Underwood Show is held at 7 p.m. weekly regularly on Mondays during the football season at the Green Mill Restaurant in downtown St. Cloud.  Fans are invited to come out and listen to the show live at the Green Mill and enjoy some great menu discounts available during the show on Monday.  The show is hosted by the voice of the Huskies, J.W. Cox and airs on AM 1390 The Fan from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. The show will be held on Tuesday on Oct. 3.

- The SCSU comeback came up one point short in a 23-22 road loss to Wayne State on Sept. 24.
 - The loss was the second straight for SCSU and it was only the sixth time that the program has lost two or more consecutive games since head coach Scott Underwood took over the program in 2008.
 - Jameson Parsons caught eight passes for 123 yards and a touchdown against WSC.
 - Parsons now has 93 catches for 1,765 yards and 13 touchdowns in his last 13 games.
 - The game was the 10th time that he has gone over 100 yards receiving the last two seasons (15 games).
 - Parsons' 123 yards was his fifth time over 120 yards receiving the last eight games.
 - As a team, the Huskies have had a receiver go over 100 yards receiving in every contest this season.
 - Nate Meyer completed 21 of 40 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns.
 - Meyer's two touchdown passes marked his 16th multiple touchdown passing contest in his three years and 26 games at St. Cloud State.
 - His 308 yards passing was the 35th 300-yard game recorded in school history and the seventh time that Meyer personally has eclipsed the mark through the air.
 - Jaden Huff ran for 59 yards and a touchdown
 - Huff's rushing score was his 15th over the last two seasons and the 18th rushing touchdown he has had in his last 16 games.
 - In 23 career games in a Huskies' uniform, Huff has 19 career rushing touchdowns
 - Jake Schley led the defense with seven tackles, two stops for loss and a sack.
 - Jerry Duckworth forced a fumble that Brady Westart recovered and returned for 24 yards against WSC.
 - The Huskies rank among the top six teams in the NSIC in passing yards per completion (5th – 14.01), fewest penalties (2nd -17), fewest penalties per game (2nd – 4.25), first down defense (6th – 76), fumbles recovered (2nd – 4), kick return defense (1st -15.13), punt return defense (2nd – 3.43), time of possession (4th – 33:43) and turnovers gained (5th – 8).
 - Parsons is second in receptions per game (8.3), third in receiving yards (520.0), receiving yards per game (130.0), sixth in receiving touchdowns (4) and eighth in all-purpose yards (131.75).
 - He also ranked nationally in receptions (fifth), receiving yards (eighth) and receiving yards per game (ninth)
 - John Pass is 10th in the league in receiving yards (285), receiving yards per game (71.3) and 11th in receptions per game (5.3).
 - Nate Meyer is third in the NSIC in passing yards (1,160) and passing yards per game (290.0), fourth in passing yards per completion (13.98), fifth in total offense (292.5) and completions per game (20.75), seventh in passing efficiency (136.4) and eighth in the league in completion percentage (59.7) and passing touchdowns (7).
 - Westart is tops in the conference and sixth nationally in fumbles recovered (2)
 - Carvel Graham is sixth in the conference and 39th in the country in interceptions (2).
 - Trevor Naslund is ninth in the NSIC in punting (37.6)
 - Gary Koehring is placed 12th in the league with his 4.5 solo tackles per game.
 - SCSU is 7-1 in the NSIC North Division opener against their division foes since the 2008 season.
 
- Next, the Huskies return home to Husky Stadium to take on the University of Mary (0-4) on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m.
 - SCSU is 10-0 all-time against U-Mary including a 42-7 victory over the Marauders in Bismarck, N.D. last season.
