SCSU extends win streak to four games with sweep at Northern State

The St. Cloud State University baseball team (16-6, 7-3 NSIC) extended its winning ways to four consecutive games with a 7-0 and 9-2 doubleheader sweep at NSIC rival Northern State University (9-9) on Wednesday, March 29 in Aberdeen, S.D.
The Huskies will bring that four-game win streak into their 2017 home openers this weekend on April 1-2 against Upper Iowa. The two NSIC doubleheaders at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud will both begin at Noon. Tickets for these conference games will be available at the gate.
In game, SCSU relied on the complete game pitching efforts of Shannon Ahern. He allowed just three hits, no runs and had three strikeouts in seven innings of work that improved his season mark to 2-1.
The Huskies sparked the win with five runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth inning to make the final 7-0. In the game, SCSU outhit the Wolves 9-3. Cooper Maas had two RBIs and two hits in the game to pace the Huskies' offense. Judd Davis and Logan Swann each had two hits apiece, while Swann and Mathew Meyer each had a double in the game.
In game two, NSU scored one in the third and owned a 1-0 lead heading into the sixth inning before SCSU tied the game with a run by Mitch Mallek. In the top of the eighth, SCSU iced the decision with six runs followed up by two more runs in the ninth inning.
David Kroger won the game in relief with 2.1 innings of work. Kevin Bolder started the game and went 4.2 innings with three strikeouts, four htis and one run allowed. Zach Siggelkow, Tyler Gentz and Miles Nablo also made mound appearances in the game.
At the plate, Meyer had three hits and scored two runs for SCSU. Judd Davis, Cooper Maas and Jackson Goplen also had two hits apiece in the game and Goplen added two RBIs to the tally.
