Huskies drop doubleheader to Bemidji State

ST. CLOUD - The St. Cloud State baseball team (34-14, 25-11 NSIC) dropped a twin bill against Bemidji State on May 4 at Joe Faber Field to close out their regular season home schedule for the 2017 season.
In game one, the Huskies lost a tough 3-2 decision against Bemidji State. Down 2-1 in the sixth inning, the Beavers scored two runs in the sixth inning to gain the win.
In the contest, BSU outhit the Huskies 8-7. The Huskies scored on run in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1 before taking a 2-1 lead with one run in the third inning. The score stood at 2-1 in favor of the Huskies before BSU rallied in the sixth.
In the contest, Mathew Meyer and Ethan Ibarra scored runs for the Huskies, while RBIs were credited to Jordan Joseph and Logan Swann. Joseph and Swann both had two hits in the contest for the Huskies.
On the mound, Dominic Austing was the pitcher of record for SCSU with eight hits allowed and six strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work. Shannon Ahern completed the final inning on the mound for the Huskies.
In game two, BSU opened the game with two runs in the first inning before the Huskies rallied with five runs in the fourth inning to make the tally 5-2. The Beavers got back on track in the seventh inning with three runs and then posted the go ahead run in the top of the eighth to make it 6-5.
The Huskies pushed the game into extra innings in the bottom of the ninth inning with a double by Judd Davis that scored Ethan Ibarra. The Huskies would not be able to hold off the Beavers for long however, as the visitors would register four runs in the top of the 12th inning to get ahead of the Huskies. St. Cloud State's bats would not be able to get the job done and the Beavers would head back home with the 10-6 win.
The Huskies were aided by two hits from Judd Davis, Jackson Goplen, and Ethan Ibarra in the game. Kyle Boser gets dealt the loss for the game, moving his overall record to 1-1.
The Huskies will finish their regular season schedule on Saturday, May 6 with a 4 p.m. twinbill at Bemidji State in Bemidji, Minn.
Fans should mark May 10-13 on their calendars as the Huskies will host the 2017 NSIC Championships at Joe Faber Field and Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud, Minn. Tickets for the tournament are available at the gate during the tournament.
