
St. Cloud State football moves to 6-2 with victory over Upper Iowa

The Huskies opened the game's scoring at 4:38 of the first quarter with a 12 yard touchdown strike from quarterback Dwayne Lawhorn to wide receiver John Solberg. The score capped a six play, 98 yard drive for the Huskies and it gave them an early 7-0 lead after Adam Stage's PAT.
Upper Iowa replied at 10:29 of the first quarter with a three-yard touchdown pass from QB Brent Lammers to Alex Stevens that tied the game at 7-7.

SCSU regained control of the contest in the second quarter with another touchdown pass to Solberg. At 7:04, Lawhorn connected with Solberg on an 11-yard pass play that capped an eight play, 67 yard drive that made it 14-7. The Huskies held the lead heading into the second half.
In the third quarter, SCSU posted the game winner with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Lawhorn to Sam Hartman at 12:26 of the third. The play finished a solid seven play, 79 yard drive for the Huskies.

SCSU added two more insurance TDs to finish out the third quarter. At 5:32 of the third, Gregory Lewis rushed for his first points of the day with a three-yard dash that pushed SCSU's lead to 28-7. The play ended a nine play, 80 yard drive for the Huskies.
Just over two minutes later, Solberg made his case for player of the week honors by snagging his third touchdown pass of the game from Lawhorn. The pair connected on a 25 yard pass that pushed the score to 34-7 on the three play, 26 yard drive.

To end the day's scoring, UIU's Lammers connected on a two-yard pass with Skyler Lammers at 1:51 of the third period to make the final tally 34-14.
On the day, SCSU posted 448 yards of total offense and limited UIU to 383. On the run, SCSU compiled 179 yards and Lawhorn had 269 yards passing. He was 15-of-28 with four TDs to his credit. Solberg nabbed six passes for 102 yards of receiving and three TDs, while Lewis had 167 yards of rushing on 38 attempts with one TD. Nathan Gizma (3-of-58), Hartman (3-of-42) and Tanner Teige (2-of-55) completed SCSU's receiving group.
On defense, Jamari Manuel and Jack Horter each paced the Huskies with 13 tackles apiece.
