Huskies and Beavers to Play Home and Home Series in Regular Season Finale

SCSU will be traveling to Bemidji on Saturday for two games, then coming home to the MAC for Sunday's double-header.
BEMIDJI, Minn. - In the last weekend of NSIC regular season play for the St. Cloud State baseball team (25-12, 18-7 NSIC), the Huskies will be playing a home and home series with the Bemidji State Beavers (6-30, 4-16 NSIC) on Saturday, April 28th and Sunday, April 29th.Â
Saturday's games will be at 2:00 and 4:00 PM in Bemidji at the BSU Baseball Field. Following the Saturday games, the Huskies will host Bemidji State at 2:00 and 4:00 PM on either Joe Faber or Dick Putz Field.Â

SERIES PREVIEW
The Huskies enter their final weekend of NSIC play in the third place spot of the confernce after sweeping Minot State in two crucial regional games on Wednesday, April 25th. Wednesday's sweep allowed St. Cloud State to be ranked eighth in the NCAA's first release of the Central Region poll. Prior to the sweep, SCSU split with Minnesota State Mankato in a four-game set that was played in Bemidji due to inclement weather conditions in St. Cloud.Â
SCSU is 7-3 in their last ten games, while six of the nine Husky starters are hitting above the .300 mark, which puts SCSUÂ as the second highest team batting average in the conference (.308).Â
Entering the regular season finale, Mitch Mallek's .382 average leads the team and puts him at ninth in the NSIC. Six of the nine
Senior captain, Jackson Goplen paces the program in homeruns (5), RBI's (42) and walks (21). Goplen also holds a .511 slugging percentage and a .418 on-base percentage.Â
In the past eight games, the Huskies have homered eight times, with Mitch Mallek and Bo Schmitz combining for four of them while Goplen has struck three. Isaac Matchinsky recorded a solo shot in the Mankato series for his first homer of the year as well.Â
On the hill, the Huskies have relied primarily on their starting rotation to carry them deep into ball games and give SCSUÂ a chance to win in tight games down the stretch. St. Cloud State has the fourth lowest team ERA (3.98) in the NSIC.Â
Leading the charge are juniors, Dominic Austing (4-1) and Kyle Boser (4-4). The duo have combined for a 2.72 ERA in 110 innings this season. Austing is among the top ten of the conference in ERA with 2.33 over 58 innings.Â
Shannon Ahern has maintained a 6-0 record in four starts. The sophomore has logged 43.2 innings with a 4.74 ERA.Â
In Aaron Hammann's last two starts, he has only allowed four earned runs in 15.1 innings. He has struck out 16 and walked four in his last three appearances.Â
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
Bemidji State enters the weekend series following a midweek split with the U-Mary Marauders. Scott Litchy became BSU's all-time leader in hits last week, and is the only Beaver hitting above the .300 mark (.365). Litchy has totaled 30 RBI's which includes 8 HR's, 10 2B's and 46 hits entering the weekend.Â
Beaver ace, Connor McNallan (1-6) has tallied a team-high of 30 K's in his 40.1 innings of work. McNallan holds a 6.69 ERA in nine starts for BSU.
Alec Meyer (1-4) has logged the second most innings on the Beaver staff with 30.2 over his six starts of the season. Meyer owns an 8.22 ERAÂ
REGIONAL OUTLOOK
NCAA Central Region Poll (Wed. Apr., 25)
The Huskies will need to record a weekend sweep to remain in good standing for an opportunity to make their fourth straight NCAA tournament appearance. The Huskies currently hold a 21-9 record in regional play which places them at eighth in the first release of the regional poll. Augustana and Minn. St. Mankato are the only other NSIC teams to receive a ranking in the first poll, with the Vikings sitting in the two spot with the Mavericks placed just above SCSU in the seven spot.Â
SENIOR SUNDAY
The 2018 Husky Baseball senior class consisting of Jackson Goplen, Bo Schmitz, Isaac Matchinsky and Logan Sandgren will be recognized in-between Sunday's games at Joe Faber Field.Â

All SCSU alumni, family members and fans are encouraged to fill Faber for Sunday's regular season finale! Sunday marks SCSU's last home game at Joe Faber Field of the 2018 season and all alumni, family members and fans in attendance will be given recognition at the game.Â
A post-game gathering and celebration will be held at the Ultimate Sports Bar and Grill located at 1101 Division St in Waite Park, Minn.
