Austing, Boser Shine for SCSU in Wednesday Split with Augustana

Dom Austing and Kyle Boser each threw eight scoreless innings against the Augustana Vikings
Sioux Falls, SD – The St. Cloud State baseball team (16-9, 9-4 NSIC) snapped a three-game losing streak and gave the Augustana Vikings (25-2, 12-2 NSIC) their second loss of the season in a Wednesday double-header on April 5th. SCSU also snapped the Vikings' 13 game winning streak.
The Huskies defeated the Vikings in an extra-innings thriller in game one, 2-1 and fell by a score of 1-0 in game two, also in extra innings. GAME ONE SUMMARY (SCSU 2 | AUGIE 1)
Dominic Austing and Jacob Blank squared off in a battle of the aces in game one. Austing carried a no-hitter through his first 4.2 innings until ultimately only allowing three hits and no walks in his longest outing of the season. In eight innings, Austing threw 111 pitches and did not allow a run and struck out six Vikings.
The Huskies scratched across two runs in the ninth inning, with only one of them being earned. The rally started with a Mitch Mallek single, followed by a Mathew Meyer single up the middle to put two on for senior, Jackson Goplen. Goplen reached base on an error by the third baseman which allowed Mallek to score from third to put the Huskies up 1-0. Caeden Harris would then single through the left side to score Meyer and give SCSU a two-run cushion going into the bottom half of the ninth. Shannon Ahern closed the door for the Huskies, recording his first save of the season while only allowing one run on one hit.
Ethan Ibarra and Mathew Meyer each recorded two hits while Caeden Harris collected the Huskies' sole RBI.
Augustana's Jacob Blank threw six scoreless innings and struck out four while only allowing four hits and no walks. Michael Brandt was charged with the loss after going three innings and allowing one earned run and striking out five.
GAME TWO SUMMARY (SCSU 0 | AUGIE 1)
Kyle Boser went eight strong innings where he only allowed one earned run on six hits. Boser threw 110 pitches and struck out five while walking two. The game was scoreless through eight and a half innings, until the Vikings loaded the bases with one out and split the series with a walk-off walk.
The Huskies stranded nine baserunners and combined for five hits as a team. This is the first time since April 2nd, 2017 that the Huskies have been shut-out. (0-3, Upper Iowa).
Picking up the win for Augustana was David Flattery. The senior went seven scoreless innings and struck out eight while walking four.
UP NEXT
St. Cloud State will be off on Friday and are scheduled to play Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska at 12 PM and 2 PM on Saturday, April 7th and Sunday, April 8th. The Huskies were originally scheduled to play the Wildcats in St. Cloud at Joe Faber Field.
