The originally scheduled weekend series has been reduced to a single double-header on Saturday, April 7th.
WAYNE, Neb. – For the 26th consecutive game, the St. Cloud State baseball team (16-9, 9-4 NSIC) will be on the road for their upcoming games against the Wayne State College Wildcats (9-15, 7-7 NSIC).
SUNDAY'S GAMES CANCELLED
In a statement from head coach, Pat Dolan, "Sunday's games have been cancelled due to low feel temperatures and snow showers throughout the day."
SERIES PREVIEW
After winning four of their six games last week against Northern State and the University of Sioux Falls, the Huskies split in their midweek series with conference leading, #3 Augustana. The mid-week series featured two pitching duels between both team's starters. Dominic Austing and Kyle Boser each threw eight scoreless innings in their outings. Pitching coach Brett DeGagne was very satisfied with his starters' performances on Wednesday, stating "Dom and Boser had mirror outings, but with just a little different outcome at the end. Facing a great lineup like Augustana, we had to be in attack mode on the mound and make them uncomfortable." DeGagne also praised Boser and Austing's abilities "to throw all of their pitches for strikes in any count." Speaking on what he expects on Saturday, DeGagne noted, "Dom and Kyle set the tone for the rest of the weekend, which is what we expect out of our top two arms. We look to build on that momentum and expect the same from our two young guys to model our leaders and be aggressive in the zone."
Sophomore, Shannon Ahern is the projected game one starter while freshman, Matthew Osterberg is the expected starter in game two.
Caeden Harris recorded the Huskies' sole RBI between the two games, with SCSU's other run coming off of a throwing error in the first game to give the club a 2-1 victory. In game two, SCSU was shutout for the first time this season, and the first time in over a full calendar year. (April 2, 2017 – Upper Iowa, 0-3)
