Huskies Unleash a Saturday Sweep in Wayne, Nebraska

WAYNE, Neb. – Once again, the Huskies' pitching staff was phenomenal in Saturday's sweep over the Wayne State College Wildcats (9-17, 7-10 NSIC). St. Cloud State improves their record to 18-9 overall and 11-4 in conference play after defeating the Wildcats 3-1 in game one, and 12-4 in game two.
GAME ONE SUMMARY (SCSU 3 | WSC 1)
Sophomore southpaw, Shannon Ahern proved to be nothing short of spectacular in his seven-inning, complete game gem that featured four strikeouts and no earned runs. Ahern only allowed four hits and two walks to improve his record to 5-0 on the season.
After falling behind, 1-0 in the top of the first, the Huskies pushed across two runs in their half of the first to take a 2-1 lead. SCSU would carry their 2-1 lead through the fifth until Caeden Harris drew a bases-loaded walk to score Jordan Joseph.
The Huskies were held to three runs on six hits while leaving four runners on base in game one.
Senior captain, Jackson Goplen recorded one RBI on a double in the first inning.
GAME TWO SUMMARY (SCSU 12 | WSC 4)
Aaron Hammann underwent a scenery change in the second inning, when he left his post at second base to take the hill for the Huskies in game two. The sophomore was absolutely lights out, going eight innings and only allowing two earned runs on four hits. Hammann struck out seven and walked six in a performance that improved his record to 2-1 on the season.
Senior, Bo Schmitz led SCSU at the plate by tallying three hits and three RBI's while also scoring two runs. Mathew Meyer totaled two RBI's while Ethan Ibarra, Jordan Joseph and Jackson Goplen each recorded one RBI a-piece. Caeden Harris was walked three times but still managed to pick up one hit.
After falling behind early once again, Ethan Ibarra, Bo Schmitz and Jordan Joseph would all record RBI's in the second inning to give the Huskies a 4-2 advantage.
SCSU held onto their two-run lead until the fourth when Wayne State threatened back and tied the game at four.
Jackson Goplen would single home Meyer to put the Huskies back on top in the fifth.
In the sixth, Meyer would give the Huskies a three-run cushion after sending a two-RBI double into the left center gap.
SCSU would go on to win the game 12-4 after Wayne State recorded an error and two wild pitches between the seventh and eighth innings.
Bo Schmitz and Mathew Meyer would each record doubles while Schmitz, Meyer and Mallek would each steal a base as well.

Since Sunday's games against Wayne State were cancelled due to low feel temperatures and snow showers, the weekend series came to a close. The Huskies are set to host the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs at 1:30 and 3:30 PM on Wednesday, April 11th in a mid-week twin bill in St. Cloud at Joe Faber Field. Weather depending, this would be the Huskies' first games at home in 2018. Following the mid-week series, SCSU will travel to Winona, Minn. to take on the Winona State Warriors on Saturday, April 14th and Sunday, April 15th. Saturday's games are set for 1:30 and 3:30 while Sunday's are slotted for 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
