St. Cloud State men's hockey players selected in 2018 NHL Draft

A pair of St. Cloud State University men's hockey players were selected in the 2018 National Hockey League draft on Saturday, June 23 in Dallas, Tex. SCSU sophomore goalie David Hrenak (Povazska Bystrica, Slovakia) and incoming forward Sam Hentges (Fridley, Minn./Totino-Grace H.S.) were both picked by NHL teams in the second day of the draft.
Hrenak was selected in the fifth round as the 144th overall pick by the Los Angeles Kings. Hentges was selected as the 210th overall pick in the seventh round by the Minnesota Wild. Sam Hentges
A total of 30 former SCSU student-athletes have gone on to play in the NHL. The Huskies currently have four players or recruits who have been drafted by NHL teams. This group also includes 2017 draftees Ryan Poehling (a 1st round pick of the Canadiens) and Nick Perbix (Tampa Bay).
Over the years, the Huskies have seen 67 of their players selected in the NHL draft dating back to 1986.
Hrenák was named to the 2018 All-NCHC Rookie Team and also gained All-NCHC Honorable Mention honors. The three-time NCHC Rookie of the Week logged three shutouts in NCHC play, while compiling a .929 save percentage, which led all NCHC goaltenders in conference play, and a 1.94 goals-against average, which was second among all NCHC netminders. A Mike Richter Award finalist, Hrenak was 14-7-2 for the Huskies in 2017-18 with a 2.11 goals against average and a .919 save rate.
Hentges prepped at Totino-Grace High School and went on to play junior hockey in the USHL at Des Moines and Tri-City in 2017-18. He scored eight goals and 10 assists during 23 games played in the USHL during 2017-18.
