COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. – St. Cloud State women's hockey's Emma Polusny (Mound, Minn. / Mound-Westonka) has had quite the summer. The sophomore goalie was selected to participate in the 2018 USA Hockey National Camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado as a member of the Over-18 Team White.
Overall, 48 athletes were selected to participate in the national camps between the Over-18 White and Blue Team. The teams consist of the top amateur and collegiate women's hockey players in the United States, including the top student-athletes from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). As a member of Over-18 Team White, Polusny will have the opportunity to train and compete with the top female hockey players and coaches in the country.
Polusny was named to the team after an outstanding 2017-18 season with the Huskies. As a first year, Polusny started 20 games in net for St. Cloud State and set the program record for single season goals against average (GAA), posting a GAA of 2.20 during the regular season. Additionally, Polusny boasted a .934 save percentage during the year, which ranked fourth in the WCHA and tenth in the nation overall, and broke the school record for saves in a shutout after making 41 stops in a 0-0 draw with Ohio State in December.
Polusny also received plenty of recognition from the WCHA during and after the regular season. The then first year was named to the WCHA All-Rookie Team and Third Team All-Conference at the conclusion of 2017-18, become the first women's hockey player from St. Cloud State to earn multiple All-WCHA honors in the same season. Additionally, Polusny was named the WCHA Rookie-of-the-Week twice during the year, first after her performance against Ohio State in December then again in February after leading the conference with a .964 save percentage in the Huskies series against Bemidji State.
Polusny and St. Cloud State will open the season on September 28 in a season opening series at the University of Connecticut. The Huskies home opener will take place on October 5, when they take on RIT at 6:07 p.m. at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
