COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – USA Hockey today announced the 37 players who will participate in the 2018 U.S. Women's National Team Evaluation Camp, which will take place Sept. 13-17 at the Harold Alfond Forum on the campus of the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. Among those announced was the Huskies own sophomore goaltender, Emma Polusny.
Polusny was an SCSU and WCHA standout as a first year, starting 20 games in net for St. Cloud State and setting the program record for single season goals against average (GAA), posting a GAA of 2.20 during the regular season. Additionally, Polusny boasted a .934 save percentage during the year, which ranked fourth in the WCHA and tenth in the nation overall, and broke the school record for saves in a shutout after making 41 stops in a 0-0 draw with Ohio State in December. As a freshman, Polusny was named to the WCHA All-Rookie Team and Third Team All-Conference at the conclusion of the 2017-18 season, becoming the first women's hockey player from St. Cloud State to earn multiple All-WCHA honors in the same season. Additionally, Polusny was named the WCHA Rookie-of-the-Week twice last year.
The U.S. Women's National Team Evaluation Camp will be utilized to evaluate player progression and provide training guidelines as players prepare for upcoming opportunities with the U.S. Women's National Team. Many top players from around the country fill the roster, including members of the 2018 U.S. Women's Hockey Olympic Team who won gold in PyeongChang.
"We are excited to welcome 37 highly skilled players from across the country to the 2018 U.S. Women's National Team Evaluation Camp," said Reagan Carey, USA Hockey director of women's hockey. "The roster contains a mix of veteran players who've played at the highest level for Team USA, as well as some emerging talent from the NCAA and professional leagues that we're excited to see come and compete."
Polusny and St. Cloud State will open the season on September 28 at the University of Connecticut. The Huskies home opener will take place on October 5, when they take on RIT at 6:07 p.m. at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
