ST. CLOUD, MINN. – October has been quite the interesting month for the St. Cloud State University football team. Two overtime games, one win and one loss, and a whole spectrum of weather events have highlighted a month known for sweater weather and Pumpkin Spice Lattes.
After a week on the road, St. Cloud State returns home and looks to get back to its winning ways when the team hosts Southwest Minnesota State University at 1 p.m. at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Live stats and video will be available during the game, and fans can also listen to play-by-play on AM 1390 Granite City Sports. Score updates will also be made on the team's official Twitter page (@SCSUHuskiesFB).
J.W. Cox audio recap of game at Augustana
Here are the five things to know before Saturday's 1 p.m. kickoff:
35 – With his second field goal of the game against Augustana, junior kicker Adam Stage (Appleton, Wis. / Kimberly) did more than just send the game to overtime. He broke the program record for career field goals made at St. Cloud State. Thanks to his 2-2 day in Sioux Falls, Stage has now made 35 field goals in his Husky career, surpassing Dan Pridon as the all-time leader in the record books.
2 – St. Cloud State has played back-to-back overtime games, a feat that hasn't occurred since the 1996 season, according to available records. Back then, the Huskies faced South Dakota and Minnesota State in back-to-back weekends, falling in OT to the Coyotes 38-31 before rebounding for a 48-42 overtime victory over the Mavericks. After beating Concordia-St. Paul 18-15 two weeks ago, St. Cloud State was unable to repeat its overtime heroics, as the team fell to Augustana this past weekend 16-13.
61 – The Huskies have had to battle the elements in addition to their opponents the past two weekends, but the forecast seems to be taking a turn in St. Cloud State's favor. As of Tuesday, it is projected to be 61 degrees and sunny, certainly the nicest weather the Huskies have seen since late September.
24-0 – St. Cloud State wasn't the only team to suffer a heartbreaking loss last weekend, as Southwest Minnesota State also experienced heartbreak of a very different kind. In a homecoming game of the ages, the Mustangs held a commanding 24-0 lead over Bemidji State entering the final quarter of play, but the Beavers rallied to win the game 25-24. After last week's loss, Southwest Minnesota State holds a 1-1 record against NSIC North opponents this season and an all-time record of 17-13 against cross-divisional opponents.
13.8 – The Huskies defense continues to be the star of the show, as they are holding opponents to an average of 13.83 points per game this season, which ranks ninth in the nation and second in the NSIC. More impressively, St. Cloud State has yet to allow an opponent score more than 20 points in a game and ranks seventh in the nation in rush defense, holding its opponents to 69.2 yards per game this season.
