ST. CLOUD, MINN. – St. Cloud State University women's basketball player Katrina Theis (So., F, Maple Grove, Minn.) earned her first NSIC North Player of the Week award this weekend for her outstanding efforts on the court, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Theis played a pivotal role in leading the Huskies to a weekend sweep of Southwest Minnesota State University and the #7 University of Sioux Falls by averaging 18.5 points over the weekend. SCSU rallied behind Theis who scored a game high 21 points to take down SMSU 74-56. Theis was 8-of-11 from the field, 4-of-6 from the charity stripe, and dished out four assists. Theis also impacted the game on the defensive side of the ball with seven total rebounds and two blocks. Against USF, Theis tallied 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field but her most impressive stat of the day was going a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line. She also contributed with eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals.
After earning NSIC All-Freshman Team Honors last season, Theis's hot start comes as no surprise. She has helped the Huskies start the season off at 6-3 (3-2 NSIC) with her stellar play on both side of the floor. Theis has expanded her game by adding the tre ball to her arsenal. From deep, Theis went from shooting 30 percent from deep to shooting 50 percent this year. Theis has also collected 49 total rebounds, 13 assists, 11 blocks, five steals in route to becoming a top two-way player in the NSIC.
The Huskies will be back in action Sat., December 21 in Halenbeck Hall to take on Minnesota Duluth at 2 p.m. to even the series with UMD at one apiece. If you are unable to make the game, be sure to follow @SCSUHUSKIES_WBB on Twitter for live updates or watch the stream live.
