#11 SCSU Records Two Grand Slams in 17-3 Victory over Bemidji State

For the first time since 1973, St. Cloud State recorded two grand slams in one game. Jordan Joseph sent home the first grand slam in the fourth inning to put SCSU up 5-2. After extending their lead to 8-2 in the sixth, Lenny Walker gave the Huskies a 16-3 lead with the second grand slam of the game. Capping off a six-run sixth inning was a RBI single from Nathan Strobel.
The last time SCSU recorded two grand slams in a game was against Minnesota-Morris in 1973.
Trevor Koenig started the game for SCSU, going three innings and striking out two. Zach Walz provided two scoreless relief innings and picked up his first career victory for the Huskies. Aaron Hammann made his first appearance of the season on the bump in the sixth, recording one strikeout.
Closing out the game was redshirt senior Ryan Wesely who tossed a clean ninth inning and recorded one strikeout.
As a team, St. Cloud State out-hit BSU 21-9 and did not record an error in the field. Of note, SCSU's record for team hits in a game is 29, a mark set against Bemidji State in 2002.
Mitch Mallek was 4-5 at the plate with 2 RBI's, while Dylan Haskamp recorded a career high of three hits as well. Also posting three hits were Ethan Ibarra, Jordan Joseph and Lenny Walker.
Walker recorded six RBI's, Joseph charted five while Mathew Meyer and Mallek each had two as well.
Toran Shahidi drew three walks in the contest, Kyle Boser was walked once as well while Matt Butler was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat of the season.
Mallek, Walker, Joseph and Ibarra each recorded doubles in the non-conference match-up.
St. Cloud State is slated to play a double-header starting at 3 PM MST against Southwest Minnesota State, then at 6:30 PM MST against Minot State.
