COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - For the second time this season, the #4 St. Cloud State baseball team (33-9, 21-7 NSIC) dropped consecutive games during regular season play. The Huskies fell by scores of 2-0 and 4-3 to the Northern State Wolves in two NSIC match-up's on Friday, April 26.Â
The opening game of the series consisted of a pitcher's duel with both starters going the distance in the seven-inning contest. The Huskies were held to six hits and did not post a run for the first time in the 2019 season. Sheldon Miks (7-2) tallied six strikeouts and only allowed two runs over his seven innings of work while NSU's John Werner struck out three, walked two and surrendered six hits in a sterling shutout performance.Â
SCSU was able to get on the board in game two courtesy of a single from Toran Shahidi that scored Mathew Meyer to cut the Huskies' early 2-0 deficit in half. Trailing 2-1 heading into the third, the Wolves were able to extend their lead back to two after a RBI single. The Huskies punched back in the fourth when Lenny Walker brought in Caeden Harris with his 36th RBI of the season, but SCSU was held scoreless until the ninth inning. NSU scratched across one more in the seventh to lead 4-2, but Najee Gaskins scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth to bring the Huskies within one.Â
SCSU's late rally fell short, but the Huskies will look to bounce back at 1 PM on Saturday, April 27 in the series finale against Northern State at Joe Faber Field.Â
The Huskies will celebrate their seniors, alumni and families on Saturday afternoon.Â
